I would like some reccomendations for a .22 caliber centerfire semi-auto weapon, and please tell me why you are suggesting this weapon. I need accuracy, reliability, and functional usefullness without excessive cleaning requirements. Thanks, Steve

EDITTED BECAUSE I OBVIOUSLY CAN'T READ AT 2:43 A.M., (the time of my OP)[:I]

Remington Nylon 66. Accurate, lightweight, high capacity, don't oil it as the innards run on nylon rails and the oil would just attract dirt and gunk, nylon stock does well in the elements, and its got a better trigger pull than most. Nuff said.[^]

Marlin model 60. Mines more reliable when it's dirty, rather than clean. The micro grooved barrel is more accurate than me. Also, they're cheap and common, so parts are easy to find (in the event that one breaks).

Dammit I can't read either mat.

Isnt the Marlin rimfire though? He says he wants centerfire. If rimfire is what he wants I would say 10-22.

Browning BAR I haven't had a Rem 7400 to be reliable yet especially if you don't clean it

Likely the most popular 22CF semiauto in America= AR 15 platform. Can be had in a dazzling variety of sizes, weights, and colors.

I'd go with an AR-15 in .223. What kind of functional usefulness are you looking for? An AR is functionally useful for a lot of things. So is a Mini-14. Or a kalashnikov in 5.45.

Those would be my suggestions, in that order.

Well, since you seem to need a WEAPON rather than a firearm or a rifle, you might consider an M16 as this is the most popular 22 center fire WEAPON currently in use. An AR15 rifle would be much cheaper and easier to obtain, but you stated repeatedly that you need a WEAPON so the fully auto M16 would appear to be the best choice.

Your intended use of the rifle is kinda important ... do you want something light because you'll be carrying it all day? Accurate at what distances?

What is your definition of "without excessive cleaning requirements"

Some people feel an AR has excessive cleaning requirements.

If the AR is off the table, I like the SiG-556 or I would look to a Daewoo AR110C or maybe an AUG all are piston driven, accuracy is around 1" at 100 yards ... also the HK SL-8 I had shot well under 1" at 100 yards, it as accurate my AR match rifle and is also a piston gun ... all of these guns I've run several hundred rounds between cleanings and had no adverse effect on reliability or accuracy.

Lately there have been a lot of people excited about the FN Scar and the Bushmaster ACR but I don't have any hands on experiance with them.
If you really desire something, you'll find a way ?
? otherwise, you'll find an excuse.

African Honey bees are no joke. They are in TX, dangerous as hell and this is getting near swarm time. Check the light fixture for access to a hollow cavity where they MIGHT build a nest and become a danger.

Yep, hardly ever clean mine, shoot bricks, and love the action, need high power ammo to live like this, it is very accurate after years of abuse.
