Mrs. Mudge is reading a book about spies and stuff. In it there is reference to two guns I never heard of. Made me look bad when she axed the resident gun expert what they were and he said..."DUH...I dunno!"They are... A Graz-Burya and a Browning Magnum, Grade Four, 7mm.Anybody? Huh? C'mon...I know you won't let me down.Mudge the embarrassed

How about a Zammich-Spiers?? I made it up in a novel I wrote. Could it be the case in Mrs. Mudge's spy novel??? Then again, I have a 12-gauge "Russo" which has a picture of a rooster engraved on the receiver, and have never found out anything about it, but it's hanging on the wall in front of me, so I think it's real!

Strange turn of events for someone whose "thing" is shotguns to be answering a rifle question, but Browning BAR --- autoloading rifle, Grade IV magnum, has a satin gray receiver, was hand engraved with a game scene from 1970 until 1976 and etched after that, discontinued in 1984.

Don't worry about it, your english is a lot better than what most high school grad.s on this side of the pond speak.

    BTW, Welcome aboard

Your "Russo" is a trade-brand shotgun. The "Rooster" was the trademark of Hibbard, Spencer and Bartlett, a sporting goods dealer in Chicago, who would have sold your shotgun between 1910-1925. It was probably made by Crescent Arms (unless it has "ELG" proofs under the barrels in which case it was a Belgian import).

Ya gotta find some better authors! The best of his are the Bourne books in my opinion. All his work is pretty formula, and he relies on !!!! to create confusion among capable oponents who would not in fact be confused to pull off some of the rather improbable action.
