Almost rolled my truck off a cliff today...

Well...not so much of a cliff, but a VERY steep bank. I was trying to get through some deep heavy snow to get up to the trail head with my truck. I kept going forward and then backing out and going a little further forward....problem is, the truck kept working a little closer to the edge every time I backed down (just the weight of the vehicle and gravity). The last time I tried to back out, my truck kind of went sideways at a diagonal and my driver's side tire was on the VERY EDGE of the bank...if I had rotated that tire one more revolution, I'd have gone off the embankment and rolled my truck. I ended up getting some chains and a come along up to a tree on the hillside above me and got the truck back up into my ruts, where I was able to back down. I was as close as you can get to rolling that truck off the cliff.

This happened probably 15 minutes after the run in with the wolf...we had an eventful day today.

Yep, doesn't matter if it's a Dodge, Chevy or Ford, none of them take a roll very well! Glad you kept in grounded![;)]

Did I mention the Moose that took interest in us while we were paddling a different river??? He sure seemed like he was trying to figure out what in the world these kayakers were...

I've learned that it's hard to back down an icy / slick incline in a truck. That's how I got stuck in a ditch in my last 2wd truck. Was backing down an icy incline and the truck just slid right into a ditch. Got pulled out by some friends.

I stopped taking my truck on some of those fire roads. The damage to tires (rocks taking chunks out of the tread) made it a no-brainer to take the ATV to those places instead of the truck.

The only problem is you have to dress much more warmly on the ATV than while in the truck.

I wouldnt say that. I rolled my 76 Ford last year and it sustained minimal damage and still runs like a sewing machine. They dont make em like that anymore....quote:Originally posted by dheffley

I don't have an ATV yet...but I do agree. These forest roads tear your vehicles up.
