Sighting problems??

I have been wondering what would be the best way to make a front sight easier to see against the rear sight. While I am at the range I tend to have a hard time sighting my 1911 or revolver. Both have a black front and rear sight so I tend not to be able to aguire the target quickly. Sometimes even when I take my time I still have a hard time lineing up the front with the rear. Any tips or tricks that would help with this would be great. Thanks
