On this completed auction (mine)

http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=268261055
picture #4 clearly shows the barrel end with magazine tube.

The package was delivered to the FFL on Jan 17 at noon. Customer picked up the gun today, claims the magazine tube is missing.

Thoughts on my responsibility?

Sounds like someone took the tube. I would call your ffl and question them. Was it insured.???

I don't know too many receiving FFL's that don't open the box and inspect the contents prior to the buyer showing up to collect it.

i do, but if the box is damaged IN ANY WAY i take pictures of all 4 sides before opening

Any way that maybe it fell out?

There is NO-WAY the box contents were damaged. It was a triple box, a HEAVY triple wall box, inside a triple wall box, with the barrel/receiver separate from the stock, each section wrapped individually in oiled paper, bubble wrap, a card board sheath and more air bag packing. Each box end had an additional THREE layers of card board, the barrel end was enclosed inside a tube, bubble wrapped and taped to a cardboard sleeve.

The part was inside the package.

My FFL Does Not open any Box til You Get there And You Open It in front of Him no Questions There.
    Sorry for Your Frustrations Though.

Oh my goodness, I bet the receiving FFL threw it out! If you wrapped it separately as many times as you said you did, it is possible the baby went out with the bath water. It could have been mistaken for part of the packaging. Call the recieving FFL and see if it was possible this happened and how long ago so it may be retrievable.

It's also possible that your "non-rated" buyer just needed a magazine tube. Call the receiving dealer.

To add to this, when we receive firearms as the intermediary, I leave the box/shipping package intact. The customer and I unpack it together so there is no question as to what was in the package and the quality/correctness of the package contents.

I have bought about 25 guns through my ffl and he always opens the box and cleans the gun for me. Its already logged in with the paperwork i need to fill out on his table.

I guess I am lucky, My dealer has never opened a package of mine yet. Over 30 H&R revolvers through him, and he has called me every time.
    I open and unwrap package.
Saves the possibility of any question.
Also, have never paid a single transfer fee.
Great to have a family member with an FFL!!

I'm with Susie, it got thrown out with the trash. I've learned to specificaly tell the receiving FFL that parts and/or DL copy are in the box, and to look for them.

    Your responsibility?

I doubt you would have any if push came to shove. The picture clearly shows the tube attached to the barrel assembly. Its not likely that it came off and vacated the package on its own.

I suspect something happened after it got to the FFL on the other end. Either some stole it, or it got lost. I doubt the buyer just needed the tube, they are a lot cheaper than buying the whole rifle, and I boubt you would allow him to return it minus the tube.

All is well that ends well. He brought it HOME in another cardboard box from the dealer. The tube fell out of THAT BOX , not mine, he found it!
