Maybe something like a relatively free market with very limited oversight?

Yeah, and unaccountable bureaucratic pinheads deciding what treatments are "worth the enormous public burden".
Add in some unexplainable definitions for premium costs & deductibles to make certain that the insurance companies continue to profit from your misery, too.

    Repeal don't replace.
Some will die in hot pursuit
    And fiery auto crashes
Some will die in hot pursuit
    While sifting through my ashes
Some will fall in love with life
And drink it from a fountain
That is pouring like an avalanche
    Coming down the mountain

Cash would work. Don't have enough, put it on your credit card. Still not enough, friends and family that want you around. If not, oh well, I don't get a free fillup at the gas pump...[}:)]

To repeal without a viable replacement would be to condemn the U.S. to decades of liberal rule and would be political suicide for republicans, at all levels of government.
The republicans in the senate and house of representatives have had 7 very long years to craft a plan of their own. That plan clearly doesn't exist, or it would have been part of DJT's campaign.
Like it or not, millions have benefited from the abortion known as obamacare, and THAT is widely reported by the liberal media.
What is not widely reported, is that millions (including my own family) have also been damaged by it.
There has to be a workable alternative that includes removing it from the tax code and protects pre-existng conditions before the current law is repealed.
If republicans can't be seen as having a better idea than the democrats, we all lose.

Obama Care is great if you have no job or income. For the rest of us who actualy pay for all or part of there insurance, our costs have gone up astronomicaly and are jumping each year. I think it would be easier to fix it and figure out how to finance it without bankrupting the working class. A ton of money could be saved by making everyone go to Med Centers rather than the ER. Poor people would hate it and think it is unfair but most of us who pay use them becuause its cheaper and takes less time to get in and out. Time is not a factor when you don't have job.

Are we asking politicians to work for the American people and do what they should have done years ago? I'm not sure they have the gonads.

It is a hard world but healthcare is not a right. Nobody has a right to anything they didn't work for. Insurance companies and the government have driven the cost of medical out of sight. We use to pay the doctor. Now we pay the insurance co employees ,the government bureaucrats besides the doctors.

T is saying it will be repealed and replaced simultaneously - in steps. That makes sense. It can't be replaced in one big step, but it can be done gradually. They can't take away people's health care without replacing it with something else at the same time. That would be disastrous.

About the only thing I've heard Democrats say that I agree with is that if the Reps repeal it and have nothing to replace it with, they will then own it and it will easily become a political disaster for them instead of the 'rats.

So it needs to be done in steps. I think T and his people will know how to do it and will succeed at doing it.

Basically it will mean taking it out of the hands of the government and putting it back into the hands of the free market.

It can be done if the 'rats aren't allowed to stall it.

There are already replacement plans on the table. However in typical Republican fashion they are more interested in jockeying for power, and in fighting than actually solving the issue. Senator Rand Paul has put forth a plan...but I guarantee you others won't even look at it because they want their name in the hat as a contributor. Democrats succeed because they are agenda driven and cohesive, the same can not be said for the Republicans.

Unfortunately someone is going to have to make the hard decisions, the system irregardless of what form it takes is not going to capable of taking care of everyone, or all of their needs. The notion that medicare or ACA should pay for a 90 year old to have a knee or hip replacement, or a pace maker is ridiculous, especially if that 90 year old possesses the means to pay for it themselves.

    +1 Jerry.

If you didn't work for it, you are "owed," zip, nada, nothing.

Why should I (and others willing to work,) have to subsidize those unwilling to do so.

I would not get too excited. With the scum we have in congress on both sides of the isle I do not have a good feeling about the eventual outcome of this fight. The Republicans will roll over to the Democrats, as usual, and very little will change.
