Just finished tweaking my 1911. I tighten the slide and polished all rails and channels replaced the tail safety the thumb safety slide release hammer muzzle break and trigger, except the trigger and hammer parts where in the rough so I had to fiddle with them a bit, took me a while as I polished parts by one hand I have this little vice I could not do without.
This gun is now silky smooth, any New Orleans whore house pimp would be proud to own it[8D]

How big is the gap between the beaver-tail and frame?
Aprox .012 had to shave it a bit so it wouldn't touch the frame.
Parts are supposed to be Wilson Combat but I have no way of verifying that. I'll post another photo.

have you been working there long just asking and it does look nice for a pimp gun
I just pretend and I'm an amateur gynecologist too.

I really like it. How do you tighten a slide?
Tricky, I put the slide up side down in a bench vice between two pieces of star board end ever so gently I tighten the vice it takes me about 10 times ever so slowly trying the fit on frame every time I compress until it starts to bind slightly important to have calipers at hand to measure progress an make sure it's even front center and back, then I polish.

I meant the area directly between the rear of the safety and the beavertail, it looks like there is a gap of .050" or so. You can really see it on the 3rd picture
Yes I see what you mean the gap is .053 they had a few tails and this one was the best fit the others some wiggle very loose or that gap was like .080
Your ? gave me a great idea I'm going to radius the corners to make it look like a little spoon so it will blend in to the gap, I think it'll look cool.

She's purity...
Oh yeah!
I believe the various aftermarket beaver-tails are designed to have the frame ground to fit them, I have seen in Brownells-beaver-tail fittig jigs

Interesting, I took my frame when I bought the tail I saw a couple like the one in the 1911 forum thread you posted and thought those where for an officers model or something, I'm going to radius the corners for the spoon look I think it'll work out ok and if it doesn't I'm going shave the frame like the one in the photos, I'm crafty fiddling with guns and shouldn't have any problems doing that job.
Thanks much great info.

I think you did well...
Verrrrrry Nice![:p][:p][:p][:)][:D] Are them grips ivory?
No not Ivory, grips made out of bone.
Thanks again to all for the nice complements.
