Customer brings in a S&W Model 625 in .45ACP.
Says it is hard to extract the fired cases. The gun is dirty with the chambers pretty full of fouling. Told him it needed a good bath and some lube. He said get a good going over.
So, took it into the shop, took it apart, threw small parts and cylinder in solvent tank, wet the barrel with #9 and let it sit over night. Today, cleaned it all up, checked everything over, lubed it up, grabbed a full moon clip with Federal 230 FMJ, went out to the sand pile, fired all 6 just fine, swung the cylinder out and went to kick out the fired cases. They ain't coming out. Go in the shop and give the ejector rod a light tap with plastic hammer, out they come. The fired cases looked OK, primers looked good, what the heck?
Grabbed another 6 rounds, same thing, tap out the empties.
Grab 6 more, but no moon clip. Fire all 6, open it up, 4 cases fell out on their own weight. The last 2 didn't move. Pushed on the ejector rod, nope. Back in shop. tapped each case out with a rod. BINGO...... There is a bulge in each of the 2 cases, right where the cylinder bolt notch is. Wiped the cylinder out good and clean. Under the a bright light you can see the shadow of the bolt notch blown down in those 2 chambers.
Owner has been getting reloaded ammo from some guy at a gun show.
The gun is in super condition, timing is right on, locks up tight, good DA pull, crisp SA.
I know this can happen, just have never seen it in person.
I see that there are some cylinders over on the auction side. I maybe doing some bidding for this guy........

never ever shoot another mans reloads

I broke that rule once, a pharmacist I knew gave me 300 rounds from his dads estate of 38 special, I figured I would shoot them in my 686 just for the brass, one was a squib and stopped right between the cylinder and forcing cone locking up the action, I was lucky it didn't go any further

So the bulge is not observable on the outside of the cylinder?

Slather on some JB Weld. Lap and polish to dimension.

    Don't forget the duct tape.

    It'll do fine.

I've heard of this before on the 625.
Cylinder walls on this gun are too thin and soft.If the chamber dia is minimum, you can go +.004 using a maximum SAAMI chamber reamer on those two and hope to clean up.
Maybe Colt has an improved replacement cylinder having a shallower bolt cutout or better steel.
Some specialty cylinder maker might be able to reproduce a cylinder
in hardened 4140 or other stronger alloy like 17-4 PH.

It looks like Bubba did the JB Weld trick on my pristine Rem 25, 32-20 chamber. It didn't make sense for a perfect rifle with perfect bore to have a pitted chamber. Ejection was terrible. The previous owner
probably tried to size the chamber down to shoot 32 Longs.
Anyway, after cleaning out the gray JB Weld, I lucked out with a perfect chamber.
