Give me some car ideas

We need a new car. I am tired of my fiance's neon. It is just a worthless piece of crap that thinks money grows on trees.

I think we can afford 7000 or so.

I need some ideas of vechicles, newer vechicles in that price range. Vechicles 98 or newer.

We bought this neon 2 years ago. It was a good buy at the time. However, I had that inclination that we shouldn't get it. Well, I should have listened to myself.

three hondas are on the list, but if we do that we have to drive back to ohio and by one, cause they are 2000 dollars cheaper in our area due to the plants in the area.

You didn't put what type and requirements you were looking for. Small, medium, large, fuel efficient, sporty, manual or automatic, 2 or four door....

I bought my wife a 2001 Chevy Malibu back in 2001. Before I bought it, I asked a mechanic friend that runs an independant auto repair shop about them. He said... They must be good cars, no one ever brings one in here!

It's been trouble free. Just keep it serviced regularly.

I don't mind the malibu's they seem like nice cars. She says she doesn't really like them, but they do have some decent price/milage. The only problem I would have with them is the fact that my moms car has the same engine as your car there, and it blew up with about 60,000 miles on it. Of course GM didn't have a warranty for that milage.

Shop around and you'll find a decent VW Jetta that will be a 100% improvement over that Neon.

    +1.

Subaru also is not a bad choice, especially if all wheel drive becomes useful in your area.

VW TDI Jetta is what you need. Neat little car and INSANELY good fuel mileage.

I'll agree with someone else that said the VW are very strong and long lasting. That said, I got rid of my 2004 VW Passat(and car payment) for a 2000 Ford Crown Victoria P71 Police Interceptor. Every once in a while you can find a "captains" car that wasn't used for patrol and ragged on hard. My Crown Vic only has 107,00 miles and a mechanic at the sheriffs dept. scoped it from top to bottom and said that other than oil changes I won't be seeing him again for another 100,000(this guy has been in the S.D. as the lead mechanic on Crown Vics for 13 years and said many of the current patrol cars are over 300,000). The police interceptors are built to much stronger specifications than civilian Crowns.

I would humbly recommend a 1974 Buick Electra 225. It'll go anywhere at upwards of 120 mph, and you can haul 37 of your closest friends. Also, if you have a bass boat, it will fit in the trunk. As an aftermarket accessory, you may want to purchase a largeish gas station also.

In the small SUV area, My 91 S-10 blazer 4x4 with the 4.3l is still going strong with over 250,000 miles on it. Except for the normal maintenence the only problems I have had are fuel pump, altenator, and battery. This is my daily driver and has never let me down.

But to be honest I am a Ford guy through and through, Just haven't gotten another in a while. Although I am in the market now for a F-250 or 350 with a power stroke diesel.

5-7yr old full size (Buick Park Ave etc). with a 3.8L upper 20's (I average 26-27 mixed driving) so there not bad on gas, there's enough room to carry a few people (and 3 bodies in the trunk), they ride nice, and since the younger crowd dosn't like the look, they are fairly inexpensive on the resale market.

Look at what vehicles Hertz or a big rental company is renting.

Buy the type of car that they rent out. When you need parts just rent their car and swap out what you need.

It's not stealing....your putting pieces back on the rental.[:p]

You could never go wrong with a Honda, Toyota, or Subaru. The bad thing is.... for 7k you could buy a 2000-2001 Taurus w/30k mi or a 96 Accord with 140k. I'd go for the Accord any day of the week.

I need some help talking to these damn dealers without getting screwed.

They look at me as if i am a 20 something kid that doesn't know jack, well maybe I am, but thats besides the point. [:D]

I need to get at least 3000 out of the car, or take money off the final value of the vechicle. What are some smooth talking techniques. I don't know if they will budge with the honda's cause they sell so well anyways. Some pointers please!

Tell them "If the numbers work you'll buy the car." Basically let them know that if they spend less time worrying about how much money they are going to make on the deal they'll walk away with a quick sale under their belt. I used to sell for Rohrman Honda. Quick sales make you feel good. If YOU do the research and test driving without talking numbers and taking up too much of a salesman's time, they'll be less likely to bend you over at the knees come signing time.

My advise? Dial 448-1000 and ask for Jack Kaufman at Honda Sales. Great guy and will do what he can to help. Tell him that I sent you. I'll email you my full name if you'd like. No I don't make any money for references either. He's was a friend of mine when I worked there and sold me my Element with an upside-down trade value.
