i am debt free. own 2 houses,2 junky cars and one good car.always been a blue collar working stiff and have a king size pension and 401 account and a healthy checking account. to put it mildly i am sitting on a ton of money. i went to a store and they gave me an interest free card for 1 year. i bought some stuff and now i am flipping out over oweing 1100 bucks. i guess i will take some of it back. in the scheme of things 1100 dollars doesn't even scratch my assets but i have it in my head that debt is the devil himself. i ain't cheap when it comes to eating out or day to day living but i can't seem to bring myself to buy a new car or cycle or any pricey item. last big ticket item i bought was a dpms .223 for $800. i also have it in my head that the bottom could fall out any day. am i what you call a cheap S O B?

ain't a damn thing wrong with being fiscally responsible. If you're looking for a job, you might consider politics.

i often worry about the bottom falling out IMO all the saved money in the world ain't going to get you through it. If it is all electronic money when this happens you'll play hell getting it.
buy GOLD pure GOLD it will be about the only thing worth a damm should that ever happen. IMO

    and yes you are cheap

just pay the $1100 and you will sleep better and still have the items in which you purchased

You'll be the richest one in the cemetary!

Pay off the "interest free" card balance in 11 payments.
Free money, unless you can't do that.
100 bucks a month should be no issue for you.

No, your'e not cheap. Your'e smarter than the average citizen.
Pay off that "interest free" card ASAP, unless you want to pay hefty interest and fees.
I myself have 13 years left to pay on the house, plan to have it paid in 5. Vehicles are paid for. Just bought a boat on a secured loan and plan to have it paid in 2. Credit card I was using to buy gas is giving me crap about paying once a week, so they are getting paid off and cut up.
It's nice not being up to your eyeballs in debt. Keep up the good work.

You're doing everything right-moreso if you use cash and get receipts (as good or better for records) vs. write nuisance checks. I and my son-in-law (he's a contractor) put just about everything on this sporting goods credit card (Scheel's, Bass Pro Shop, Cabela's all have them) and then pay the whole balance off each month. We've gotten a ton of points and can hardly think of anything else we need from the store we've bought so much stuff with points the last 3 years.

No worries....you're a man of vision. You've chosen not to be a "slave to the grind". I've learned in time that this is exactly how you need to function in this "system" to get ahead. What you've recently done can only help your rating. Once you pay it all off you can look forward to having a mail box full of credit card offers trying to get you back in debt again![:D][:D]

You are not cheap, you are highly focused on avioding debt and frugal with your money. In a way you remind me of one of my partners at the firm we own who is a retired Lt. Col. from the Corps of Engineers. Lyle (The Col.) spent 20 years in the Army and saved every penny he earned and during this time he developed the art of avoiding buying anything to an extent that still amazes me! He never married (smart) has no kids (smarter) lives in what most would consider to be a modest townhome (paid for) and he drives a ten year old car (although it is a Lexus). Getting the man to open his wallet to spend even a dollar usually takes a pry-bar and about a gallon of WD40. Keep up the good work.

I'm in a similar situation as you, G. My pension and 401 may not be huge, but my farm and other property is paid for. Car payments are for losers. In fact, all payments are for losers.
My wife is as frugal as I, but she pestered me for a year to buy a new Harley. I had one when we met, but sold it to pay on the farm. I finally relented last May and am so glad I did. She loves riding more than I do! We paid a big chunk down and will pay it off in the spring when we get our bonuses.
I think that some of us that worked our way up financially are fearful of everything crashing. I know I am. I've been poor. I didn't care for it.
What I'm trying to say is, enjoy life a little. It don't cost much.
Like the guy says on the auction side, "It's only money, I have confidence in you. You'll make more of it."

Yu sound like a cheap penny pincher to me. Go out and enjoy yourself. Buy a 4 wheeler, a new car and maybe a new toothbrush. Life is too short and you can't take any with you !!

Cheap is when you only allow yourself to use 1 sheet of toilet paper to wipe your *, and then flip it over for the final clean-up.
