Pond vegitation.

2 years ago my pond developed a big leak. It drained down by 3/4. Last summer I finally was able to find the hole ang plug it off good. Now the pond is filled back up to capacity and the grass has grown in 2 ft below where the water line is and there is this thick green alge that is just about covering the entire pond. It's hard to cast a line out because it takes to large of a sinker to get through the alge.
The pond is some where's around 1/2 an acre and on the deep end its 6-8 ft deep. There are cat tails on the shallow end and I'd like them to stay. Is there anything I can do to kill the grass and alge that won't kill the fish or cat tails? There are a few 3-4 lb large mouth bass in there I'd prefer not to kill off.
Also the pond is spring fed and drains off into a creek about 200 yds away.

Bails of barly staw will help with certain types of algea. Now me I'd just throw in ducks to eat the algea then you eat the ducks. Circle of life [:D].
Why would you want the cattails to stay? In no time they'll be all the way around preventing fishing(or anything else) from the bank.
They seem to be staying pretty much to the far end of the pond for the 3 years I've had this place. where their at the water is only a few inches deep anyway so why not?

I have a 3 acre pond with cattails in three small areas the banks. They start as a water filter from the road side that fronts one side of the pond. Cattails provide a safe area for small minnows until they are big enough to face the "savage" new world of deeper water. Bull frogs, painted turtles and several nesting birds love them. Big bass lurk just outside waiting for anything that comes their way.
However, I do have to control them with aquatic Roundup and surfactant (cattails have waxy, tough coating, surfactant allows Roundup to stick to the leaf surface). A good strong mix will keep them in control and not affect the fish. I hand spray from the bank and from the water side in a boat once a year, usually when the cattails are young and before they go to bloom.
Plus they give a nice look to the pond, providing they ARE kept under control.
