sunday morning. went out turkey hunting right at dawn, was cresting a little rise. a grove of trees overlooking a draw that about 20 mule deer does and yearlings meandering up the draw. just as he paused a yellow/brown shape darted straight away from him. he thought "what is a lab doing out here" then he realized it was a mountain lion, a small one. guys at work figured it was driven off by Momma recently, and he was so hungry he concentrated on the deer and never heard my son. 1st one my son has seen in 8 years out here.

Most guys that hunt around my neck of the woods pack a pistol with 'em for just such critters. Our deer and elk populations have plummeted since they outlawed cat hunting with dogs.

Just one?
he was holding a Mossberg 835 extra full coke with 3 3-1/2 inch 4x6 matrix turkey loads. he was sufficiently armed I reckon.quote:Originally posted by NeoBlackdog

That'll do, as long as kitty isn't too close.
A buddy of mine took one with his shotgun while turkey hunting a couple of years ago that was puttin' the sneak on him. He just happened to turn around and there was the cat about 25' away!
