Sick of it!!

I've had my bed for 12 years. It's broken several times (won't tell you how [:D]). I have all kinds of books and wood under the bed holding it up in strategic spots.

Anyone know of any real strong beds? I'm thinking about just making my own since it seems whatever I buy falls apart and whatever I build seems to last forever. I just don't know how to make all the swirls and decorations.

any furniture...have gone to several old name furniture stores in the area and now they have import cardboard s--t on display.....build your own stout & functional...pretty doesn't matter unless you plaace it in the front yard

also turned stuff can be purchased from lowes and the like plus renovators supply places...google is your friend

I have this in king size... It's robust. I got the matching dresser, another dresser with big mirror, and a nightstand.

try doing your exercise on the floor[:D]. the bed will last longer[:D]

I say build your own. Never have to worry about breaking it again. That doesn't have to stop you from trying though. [;)]

I'm swinging towards making my own. I'm not a great carpenter, but I can make stuff look decent usually and get the security of knowing it's built to last and probally save a few thousand in the process also.

I have done this.

Attach a very nice (padded or otherwise) headboard to the wall studs.
Build a stout frame, build it tall.
Install carpet protectors under the legs of the frame.
I used 2x8's with 4x4's for legs. You can glue the fancy top caps on and stain/seal the exposed parts.

Think about storage under the bed.
Push the frame to the headboard and yer done.

The mattress cover hides the frame.

Built one for my sister years ago. She wanted a captains bed, except she wanted a platform bed instead of a water bed.

Used 1" maple plywood for the platform and frame and 9/16" to build the drawers. Routed a bead on the edges, masked off, and painted the beading in sandstone. Knowing it would take three men and a boy to move, I used knock down hardware to assemble it.

I built ours, its similar to the one from Manards shown but I used 2x10,s for the main frame then 1x10,s for inside cross members. I did not use a deck as I kept the Box springs/base with a mattress on top, I found a nice headboard off of an old king waterbed and finished it all to match,,Its heavy but no way in hell it would ever break,,plus the bed itself is waist high so its just the right hight for me to stand on the side of the bed and...nevermind,,,[:I]

When we moved I pulled the footboard of my bed in one direction trying to get it squared up in the room it was going in and messed up one of the "hook" things that holds one of the rails in the footboard. It is so frustrating!!!! It is holding up fine, but I am constantly worried that it is going to break.

I built our bed almost 30 years ago. Just pick out what mattress size you want to use and go from there. You can make it as stout as you want. I built ours out of Sugar Pine, turned the posts , rest was pretty simple

We Built a Platform Bed, for a King Size Matterss. Has Drawers underneath, and a "Secret" Storage for Long Gun or long Form-Factor things. We made the Platform in Two Pieces, so we can get it in and up stairs. They bolt together at the Center.
