What to do if you shoot someone!

I got these 7 tips in a concealed holster that I just bought. Thought they were good enough to pass on.

After there is no longer a threat. you should

1. Secure the weapon from the assailant. Do not talk to him or make threats. Do not tamper with evidence.

2. Call the Police. Tell them what happened and Ask for medical assistance. Do not give too many details and do as you are told when they arrive. do not argue.

3. Call your lawyer. Make no statements to the police or anyone else until your atty arives. Do not make statements to the police. Let your atty talk. what you say can be used against you.

4. Get medical treatment for yourself for shock whether you have physical injuries or not.

5. Do not talk to the news media.

6. Do not appologize. You feared for your life and you have no regrets. Statements of remorse or regret can cost you later.

7. Stress. Persons involved in a shooting face great stress. these are common, even among law enforcement officers. Seek professional help.

They all make sense. Thanks for sharing.
Half of the lives they tell about me aren't true.

I always put a kitchen knife in his hand FIRST (after you've made sure he's dead/finished him off)![:D]

When they discovered you tampered with the evidence, you'll be in even deeper doo-doo.
Same goes for pulling the dead perp back inside if he made it out the door.

The CCW class I took which was instructed by a local cop stressed the (Imminent Danger)phrase. And our range test was at 7 yards, he said past that could be a question of if you were in true danger. My personal opinion of the 7 yard distance is different, I am a very good shot and I am going to assume that whoever is shooting at me is too, I would go past the 7 yards if I felt I had no choice.

...If you have shot him 7 times, to be sure that he is neutralized. When ask, and you will be..."why did you shoot him 7 times?"
Your answer has to be, "sir? 7 times? I don't remember anything but the first shot"....no more, no less. Under stress an untrained individual is capable of shooting numerous times, while only remembering the first shot. Someone trying to kill me, needs 7 shots, though I will never remember the other 6...[;)]

The prosecutor is going to love this statement when he takes you to court. The sad fact is that statements like this can come back to bite you.

Besides getting his weapon, you are also entitled to his boots, horse, and whatever money or pocket watch he is carrying.

An aquantaince emptied a Browning Hi-Power into some DB who was coming thru his window at him one night. When asked why he shot the guy 12 times, he told the officer "Didn't know I had. When the slide locked back and the gun stopped going bang, I noticed he was down".

Very Good advice that the attorneys won't tell you.

I always worry about the attorney thing. "Do not speak to anyone until you have talked to your attorney".

How many people have an attory at the ready when they get in trouble. Not just any attorney, but you need a "criminal attorney". I have an attorney that I use for administrative issues, wills, etc. But for a "Shooting incident" who would I call. Those of you who work in the Law Enforcement Business probably know lots of criminal lawyers and would know who to call immediately. But for the rest of us folks who don't deal with criminal issues in our jobs, what do we do??

I have never needed a criminal attorney, but I know exactly who I would call. Served federal jury duty, and figured it out then.

A phrase like "he was trying to kill me" should be said to the 911 operator as this will be entered as evidence in the shooters defense.
One should also tell 911 what they are wearing / look like so the LEO responding will know who the good guy is. And, do not attempt to give first aid because the bad guy may have some adreneline induced fight left in him.

The Criminal attorneys in my area all advertise like hell.
The good ones are usually representing the hihger profile cases..I can think of a handfull that I would wake up out of bed.
Or just pick the one with the biggest yellowpage ad.[:D]
