Wife and I went on an outing for the Hospital Association.

Her first time and my second time shooting clay's.

I got 24 out of 50 she hit 12 out of 50 I thought that was great for her first time.

I gave her the Remington 1100 I used an old Double. Part of my problem was getting used to the two triggers.

We really enjoyed it though we may have to go back on our own.

Shot two rounds this afternoon and only hit a few birds. It was a blast
and my first time at the game.
It might be cheaper to do some reading before trying it again.
    Any suggestions?

    Hello All!
I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions on what to look for in a sporting clay shotgun. I'm in the persut of purchasing a used shotgun just for sporting clays. If you have any suggestions all comments are great appreciated!

I got invited to shoot sporting clays at the fancy Orvis facility at Sandanona. I shoot a lot of skeet but never sporting clays. Besides minding my manners, anybody have any tips or insights they would like to share. Should I wear a tuxedo...

Choke tubes. As sporting clays shots range from 20 yards to 50 yards.

    It will humble you.

Lots of fun and Humble Pie and as stated Chokes play a big part. I use Mod and Improved and do fine on my o/u. Just like skeet attach them [:D][^]

You should wear a tweed sporting coat with elbow patches and a flat duckbilled newsboy cap.

your shooting vest needs to be the best from a high end sporting goods store and try to "buy" some 25, 50 shell patches off fleabay and sew on your vest.....impress the hell out of them.

never show up with a pump or auto e gads man it's always an O/U, and carry the gun broken. Spend a lot more money on Winchester Trackker shells...orange. reloads will get you escorted off the range.

    enjoy your day.[:D][:D][:D][:D][:D][:D][8D]

You are in for a lot of fun and as stated, a sincere humbling[;)] Last time out I shot a 42 out of 75. Most of the guys that shoot this regularly sot in the upper 60's to low 70's. I felt like i never held a shotgun before[B)] My son shot a 64 and never shot skeet, trap or SC before. Damn it was embarrassing. You will be surprised at all the stations and how they fly away, towards you and away from you. You never know where. I like the ones that run across the ground or in-between bushes and over logs. It is awesome. Oakie

use one full choke and one I.C. But remember which is which THAT is why I like Double triggers. It is embarrassing When you shoot one of the incoming birds at 15 feet with the Full Choke barrel it will not dust the bird it will evaporate it if you are ON but then you look like the fool I am trying to break the outgoing bird at 45 yards. I've shot quite a few sporting clays, and IMO all you really need are a mod and IC choke. One of the big things about SC's is that it is an illusion game some times. They throw small targets at the same range as the others, which in turn makes them look a lot farther than they actually are. Don't overthink it, just go shoot it and you will have a great time.

I say old chap, my GTI does the exact same thing. Pip pip

I have a pair of each tube from Full to Cyl (1 notch= full, 5 notches = skeet, no notch = Cyl)

OK, I'm an old, old shooter of all things orange, white, and pink. Number one, Ports are a waste of time and money plus they piss off the shooters standing next to you. Number two, I have been associated with many sporting clays tournaments either as a shooter or ref and Many, Many very good shooters shoot threads on most stations although George Digweed runs full/full on everything. He is the exception. We control the pattern with the shell and soft shells pattern better. Can you spell reload? Long crossers or high towers require more choke. There are tournaments that throw difficult presentations if many top shooters are there but many tournaments with everyday shooters, like me, throw softer targets and require less or no choke. A very well known saying is told by every gun club manager or owner...."Never throw a target that can't be broken" If the shooters come to a club and break 30x100, they probably won't return. We like to hit targets. And, no, shooting your shotgun without a choke tube will not ruin it, I have shot thousands through mine and a tube will go right in. Just brush the threads and clean the powder residue out. If your wad is doing it's job, lead or steel will never touch the barrel. If you are worried, get a cylinder tube and use it.
