1What might I do to for A.M. Radio to help improve reception?Maybe something in the way of an external antennae?
2What are these new 120 v. Satelite Radios all about? Are they connected to Cable or antennae?do they pick up all Local Stations or do they only pick up certain stations that broadcast through satelite?

cant answer the am but i can give you some info onthe satelite radios

satalite radios dont recieve normal broadcast radio stations. they only recieve the stations from the satelite company. sirius currently has just shy of 200 channels. every type of music(commercial free i might add) news, sports, comedy, adult, you name it, its availble. crystal clear 24hrs a day.

i would shy away from xm as i dont see them being in business much longer. sirius is the way to go

You are wrong about XM. It is here to stay just as sirus is.

I have used XM for about 2 years and love it.

Best thing to do is research each and see which has the programing you want.

I have had both a Sirius is much better. The play more popular music.
For the AM I don't think there is a lot you can do. I would suggest you go and buy an old radio if you want to listen to AM or a high quality multi band.

If you're into electronics (I used to be long ago) you can build an outdoor antenna for AM. To be correct, they are quite long because of the wavelength. The ideal am antenna is nothing but a long piece of wire (I mean long- 40 or 50 feet, if I remember correctly) Long ago, folks would string them between trees- kinda like a clothesline. The real problem though is that most modern radios provide no way to connect an external am antenna. That's where you come into the "if you're in to electronics" area. You'll have to solder in to a circuit board at the right place. There are also lightening issues to consider. You can probably find info on the net or from books- I used to have many but they're gone now.

About satellite- Different animal altogether- Not at all compatible with traditional radios. It operates on a much higher frequency and is all digital. I has it's own antenna system designed for the purpose. Antenna design varies with frequency of signal and the freq of sat radio is nowhere close to that of conventional. I have Sirius and I like it!
