Why would a person with a concealed carry permit want to open carry? Just to say hey look at me?

It also allows NON-permit persons to open carry on their property.
Also some states mandate that a piece must be concealed if you have a CCW. Sometimes hard in summer with less clothing. With this wording of the new law, it's okay.

It's STILL a INFRINGEMENT OF THE SECOND AMENDMENT.[:(!]

    .....The law also allows property
owners to openly carry a firearm
    on their property without a
    concealed carry permit for the
    purpose of self-defense.........

On your own property. Really? There needs to be a law on the books for that?

I don't carry concealed, the only times I have carried a handgun was in the woods in Michigan or out in the mountains here in Nevada. I carried openly for easier access to my weapon. If I lived in one of the states with constitutional carry then I would probably get a concealed carry gun. Due to Nevada's screwy laws I won't get one here. I don't need a concealed carry weapon to feel safe.

Welcome to America! Shall not be infringed should still mean something.

My a couple of my personal reasons for wanting open carry in Texas is because during bow season you can only carry if you have a CHL. In the national forest I hunt there have been huge plots of marijuana found. There's people to protect the fields that I don't want to walk up on unarmed when hunting. Yes I have my concealed, but I'd like to carry something a bit bigger with more thump out in the woods for drug guys and hogs.

The other big reason is if I'm carrying my pistol concealed and the wind is blowing and prints my pistol agianst my shirt where someone can see I get in trouble. If I get out of my car and my shirt lifts up and someone sees I'm in trouble.

There needs to be a law on the books for everything.I mean, ya gotta have a "permit" to carry on public property, so why not on your own property?

While I tend not to carry openly while going to the opera, I certainly do carry while out hunting, birding, hiking or any activity outdoors. That would be illegal without an open carry permit. Gosh aren't we lucky we can now carry openly on our own property in OK? Oh wait, That's whacked! Glad I am only there for the gunshows.

Hunting and fishing open carry here is also the law. If I were a bad guy and I was going to cause trouble I would go for the guy with the gun showing first. I lived in states where open carry was legal and most of those that did had something to prove, other than their right to do so.

I do support their right to do so, but the mentality escapes me.

And why limit it to those with concealed permits?

Open carry on your own property or place of business has been ok for as long as I can remember.

cowboy That's full of it?....you don't even know me. You honestly think if someone is out to go on a shooting rampage they are going to care? Do you think that those who appear less armed are really in less danger? They are like a rabid dog intent on attacking anyone, in which case i would want tbe advantge of a faster draw, more powerful round and more capacity that open carry provides...my two and three year old childrens lives could depend on it. The person is a lunatic ...also many are cowards and will turn their l to their own head at the first sign of armed resistance. If it is a sane yet evil person and see an armed citizen occupying there intended place of violence they will probably (because they are sane) go find an unarmed victim (or at least one they think is unarmed. )....Their is a reason on duty cops with a gun on their hip don't often get car jacked....It's because of the gun on their hip! It's also a strong argument for why shootings occur in places that evil men precieve people to be unarmed (like schools)....if I can stop the guy from pulling his merely because mine is on display then I will....It's about defusing the situation! Without having to draw in the first place..... Guess this makes me a cowboy?

    you're confusing bare with bear.

I wish Florida would finish the game with open carry.
We have led the nation in terms of 'shall issue' CCW, and the Castle Doctrine.

For some reason they can't get past the idea of people wearing a gun openly on their hip.
Tried it once in the eighties, and only lasted for a very short period of time before bleeding hearts appealed.

No crime happened as a result of open carry,....what a shock.
