1938 German copy of "Mein Kampf"

An old German vet gave me a box of books and a few were in German. One was Mein Kampf by AH.
On the title page it has the date 1938. Is that the printing year?

The only thing that throws me is while all in German on the next page it says copyright (in German text) 1925 and below in English it says "Printed in Germany" the only English in the entire book
The hard cover has the Swastika and the hard cover flexes and almost seems to be done to be similar to a Bible

Is this one of any value or should I burn it after the burn ban expires here in Florida (My moral outrage can be trumped by monetary value[:D])

1925 was the 1st printing year for Vol #1, Vol#2 was printed in 1926.

Your 1938 edition should have a photo of AH and it will say Printed in Germany in English.

You have the real deal and in good shape its worth between $200-$1600 a lot has to do with condition.

Any pre WWII edition, if complete and in readable condition, will be worth at least $100.

Yep, has the photo plus a separate promo pamphlet about other German books written about Hitler, Goring and Nazi BS.

The book is in very good shape but the original jacket protector is deteriorated so only a couple pieces are left including most of the cover with the same portrait in the book

    I'd agree.

I do not part with stuff like that.

Important books of the past, need to be kept safe.

Not just because it has AH as it author, but because it is an important book in History.

I would do some research for a competent restorer to see if the jacket could be somewhat restored.

Having the jacket adds a lot of value to any book.

    YES.

Especially when the fruits of the world start claiming it never happened.
You'll have proof. Kinda hard to dispel printed text from before the calamity.

Get yourself an English version and read it. Same with Das Kapital and Mao's Little Red Book. It will make you smarter.

Sell the book to the highest bidder. Hitler told the world what he was going to do and reading between the lines, you understand what screwed him up.

That is a very nice looking edition. I would not mess with it in any way. Get a professional to check it out and give you a value, but in my opinion that looks north of 1K .

I agree with P3, get an English edition and read it. It is worth the time. Just remember what Germany had just gone through when it was written, they were just 7 years out of WW1 and the country and economy were in shambles, way worse than our Great Depression.

Not knocking GB's auction, but I would put it on Fleabay. World wide audience plus thousands of collectors.

    That is not correct

There are copies on Mein Kampf on ebay at present.

Search for Hitler and you will find all sorts of NAZI memorabilia

I read it in high school and again in college and have reread it a few time...

I bought the - an English translation at a library book sale decades ago...

Like marks and Engel and Mao and che and others you should read these works and educate yourself...

Having owned it or read it does not make someone a racist or a bigot or a Nazi or a klansman or a hater or indicate abhorrent behavior or thoughts...

If you do not read and study and understand history you are doomed to repeat it and you are a sheep waiting to be sheared and slaughtered - you have your head buried in the sand.

It's obvious when you read it that he is crazy and that he's a monster.

But parts of it make sense and have a great appeal and are correct and valid...

That's the problem with crazy people who were geniuses - the crazy is wrapped up in stuff that is normal and appealing and makes sense...

That's part of how leaders like this get and keep power - have done so in the past and will do so in the future.

So go ahead and don't read it and label - mock - dismiss people who have read it as a historical work.

The person who is off or unbalanced is the one who ignores it or pretends it's not real.

    Sigh.

    Mike

    Well said.

Dang,,at ya'lls prices I am gonna send my whole bookstore for you to sell [:D]. Honestly if you have a rarer harder or more expensive book there are other places to look it up. abebooks is a good starter but lots of times you can find them on Amazon. The dust cover really really hurts the value,,kind of like a collectible gun that still has original box. auction it,,you never know and you may get lucky.
    edit,
,I looked it up through bookstore..Amazon has one in new condition for $495 but its been for sale for a long time,,several of the other online bookstores I can go though has them starting at $59 in poor condition,,$79 in good with no dust cover up to $499 in new condition..1938 is an off year,,its between the first edition and the big reprint in 1939 celebrating Hitlers Birthday.

Type "German helmet" in the search and you'll get 1,400 listings. eBay just doesn't allow pictures of swastikas so they turn the helmets around.
