Police officers responding to a 911 call about a man shooting at a garbage truck took fire from the suspect. One officer was seriously wounded and his life hangs in the balance. A SWAT team responded and promptly killed the suspect, a 60-year old man described by the local news as a "gun enthusiast" who was an accomplished marksman and had a large collection of firearms.

And now we all look bad because of the actions of one gun nut. The anti-gunners here in Michigan will have a field day with this.

He may have been a gun nut enthusiast, but he certainly sounded nuts.

Again, the whole story is not here. If someone was firing at him, we may never know.

Probably Mexican illegals working on the garbage truck.
All the gun nuts on here are up in arms about them.

I don't know what his side of the story could be, his neighbors called 911 because this lunatic was taking shots at a garbage truck. His neighbors came outside and pleaded with him to lay down his gun, he refused. His neighbors were also interviewed on the news and they certainly made it sound like HE was the one with the problem, not the police who shot only in self-defense. Sounds like he went off the deep end and got what was coming to him. And I call him a gun nut because he liked guns, and he was a nut. Believe it or not, there are people out there who obsess over guns and are mentally unstable, and they give all of us gun owners a bad name. There are bad apples in every bunch, gun owners included.

If he had tied himself to an old oak tree with a gun to prevent the bull Dozers from knocking the tree down for a parking lot. Would he be a gun nut or an environmentalist wacko?

by the way if you are offended by the term "gun nut", you really don't shoot enough. As a side note, whenever I am going to jump on the computer I always let people know I am going to go check on the "gun crazies". (that includes you if you post on gunbroker.com).

It was in dearborn heights, not detroit, and one of the officers is also dead [:(]

The man who did the shooting was my secretary's husband's secretary's husband. She called me last night. Apparantly the man was laid off from GM, was drinking and on anti-depressants. I'll find out more today, if there is any more....
