I've always had a difficult time with Hunter Thompson myself. i read fear and loathing when i was in college studying journalism. We had to write a report on political journalism and I choose HT Fear and Loathing. My journalism professor told me that HT was no journalist and that I better pick another topic. In true HT fashion I ignored his advice, receiving the only failing grade of my college career.

early and late...it was the middle crap I avoid. Not a big fan of the "ghost in the machine" era.

who remembers the first time they heard "roxxanne"? That voice...those lyrics....the music.

Ooh, wrong "Fear and Loathing" book. HAd you picked "F&L on the Campaign Trail, '72", you would've had a better shot. But if your prof didn't recognize HST as a journalist, you'd have been screwed, anyway. I loved reading his stuff, but not content to live vicariously through his writings, I pursued a Gonzo lifestyle that derailed at least two marriages and countless jobs. Yeah, I had many fine adventures, but must rely on other peoples' accounts of them. And you know how people lie.
So far, I seem to have escaped fairly unscarred, except for an unnatural affinity for big, damn guns and funky headgear.
