I went to the our local range for a little while to sight in my 1901 Rolling Block (7mm Mauser). I was shooting down at the 100-200m range. There was a group of Coast Guards shooting pistol, so we really weren't getting in each others way. After a while a couple of them walk down to where I'm shooting and ask what I'm shooting. I told'em it was an old single shot in 7 mauser and they had never seen one. They asked if I was really hitting the targets with those open sights, so I let them shoot a couple rounds. They could not get over actually hitting at 100 with open sights. These guys were probably not even 20 yet and with a little practice could be shooting circles around my welder-eyes.
I can't beleive they thought it was tough to use open sights - what the hell is our military using to train these kids?? We talked for a while and I thanked 'em for serving our country and protecting Us. They said that they were being called up to go to Iraq next month. I Thanked them again, didn't really know what else to say. I told them to practice with open sights - It will give them a little more confidence when shooting for real....

Thanks---Peabo
This target isn't that great but I was at the range shootings other guns and had this Ruger #3 with me and had to shoot it just to see if/how it would shoot. 100 meters with iron sights. .223 with factory federal 55 grain soft point. I was pleasantly surprised. This was the first time to shoot this rifle.

Practice more and maybe you could hit the quarter. Don
