Except when they need money - or need to do laundry.

Time sure does FLY by, doesn't it.
It seems the older you get, the faster it goes. [:0]

    Congrats on his graduation. [:D]

    Cat's In The Cradle
    ~Harry Chapin

My child arrived just the other day,
He came to the world in the usual way
But there were planes to catch and bills to pay,
He learned to walk while I was away
And he was talking 'for I knew it, and as he grew
He said "I'm gonna be like you, dad, you know I'm gonna be like you"

And the cat's in the cradle and the silver spoon,
Little boy blue and the man in the moon
"When you comin' home dad?" "I don't know when,

But we'll get together then, You know we'll have a good time then"

My son turned ten just the other day
He said "Thanks for the ball dad, come on let's play
Can you teach me to throw"
I said "Not today I got a lot to do" He said "That's OK"
He walked away but his smile never dimmed,
It said I'm gonna be like him, yeah,
You know I'm gonna be like him

Well he came from college just the other day
So much like a man I just had to say
"Son I'm proud of you can you sit for a while?"
He shook his head and he said with a smile,
"What I'd really like dad is to borrow the car keys,
See you later can I have them please?"

I've long since retired, my son's moved away
I called him up just the other day
I said "I'd like to see you if you don't mind"
He said "I'd love to dad if I could find the time,
You see the my new job's a hassle and the kids have the flu
But it's sure nice talkin' to you dad
It's sure nice talkin' to you"
And as I hung up the phone it occurred to me,
He'd grown up just like me
My boy was just like me

And the cat's in the cradle and the silver spoon
Little boy blue and the man in the moon
"When you comin' home son?" "I don't know when,
But we'll get together then, Dad,
We're gonna have a good time then"

We might all be different - probably are - BUT it
FINALLY hit ME last year when I was walking along
with my eldest son and he was talking to me - asking
for some kind of advie, or other - and SUDDENLY I
thinks to myself - JEEZE! THIS FULL GROWN MAN (34) IS
YOUR SON AND IS REALLY ASKING YOUR ADVICE ABOUT
    SOMETHING VERY IMPORTANT!

... that's when it hit ME, anyway, but I've always been
a bit slow on some stuff.

    High school graduation - nothing!

Boot graduation from MCRD - nothing - just my kid.

Graduation from UCSD - nothing/well, a mild twinge, maybe.

Took us out to dinner to celebrate first real civilian
    job! - Nada mucho.

Walking his bride up the aisle - eh! it was pretty neat - but HIS
    thing!

Two boys born - yep, he's gettin older, alright.

... but, "Dad, I've got an important problem I want to run by
    you, if you've got a moment ... !"

    THAT, made me feel old!

    LOL ... don't ask ME - I dunno why - but it stuck![:D]

... one down - three more to go!

    I'll never make it![:0]

Instead of fixing a motorcycle that hasn't been driven for a few years, or some guns that havent been shot in a few years, or set up my handloading equipment that hasnt been operated since we moved....usw, I'm here on the computer, not making any progress but feeling good about answering questions and gaining new gun info.
My guilt trip about idleness stems from a victorian father who didn't tolerate it. That I'm now a senior citizen (in body only) and have a disabling, spinal injury doesn't really excuse it in my own mind.

Great song sheep and a lot of truth there. Take it from a dad of boys at years of 36 & 40.
It's too late for me, save yourself.
