I got my finger crossed....I may be acquiring one! The timing is sorta strange. Another member made a post asking which 3 calibers we wanted to acquire. Now all of a sudden this .35 Remington pops up and the owner actually makes a reasonable offer. Did I mention that Wednesday is also my birthday! [8D]
I can't cross my fingers and toes tight enough!
Do I scope it or just leave it with open sights? I'm thinking open sights for now.

Great rifle I have a couple
I have long wanted one! When I was 18, I made the mistake of choosing another rifle over a nice, used 336 .35 Remington. That rifle has long since departed my hands, as it just was not comfortable for me to shoot.

Congrats, and Happy Birthday!
If you reload, try some Sierra 200 gr RN and around 35gr of IMR 3031. I can attain sub MOA groups with this combo.

Need to match it with a Remington 8 or 81 in same caliber for ammo efficiency.
Have a 81 in .300 savage would like to get a .35 Rem to go with it one of these days preferably one of the police models with the detachable magazine

If you shoot cast bullets, the .35 Rem is just about perfect. I load 200-grain flat points from an RCBS mold. At a hardness of 13-15 BHN, they shoot just as straight and kill deer just as well as Hornady jacketed RNs with the same powder charges. My Marlin has Ballard rifling, but when I once shot some of my loads through a friend's rifle with micro-groove rifling, they shot the same way from that one. So take conventional wisdom with a grain of salt.
It prints 3-shot cloverleaf groups with Rem 200 gr RN core lokts, and (when single loaded) 1" groups with the 150 gr PSP C-L bullets. Recoil is minimal. I haven't had a chance to hunt with it, so I can't give a story on game performance, but the stories here on the post are pretty consistent... so I'll hazard a guess it knocks deer hard at 150 to maybe 200 yds and under.
Once you get one you're hooked! Good luck!
I've been looking at those .35 Rems also, but really like having revolver/rifle combos, ie .357, .45LC, etc, etc... Having said that, I like the looks and ballistics of the .35 Remington. Especially in a Marlin lever-action! [:)]
As for your question ... leave it open sights until you have a chance to shoot it at the range and find out just how well you do with it. It might surprise you how accurate it is with open sights.
The other thing to ask yourself is, "What am I going to use this rifle for, other than shooting at the range?" The answer to that question will help you determine whether to leave it open sighted or put a scope on it, imho.
Big Al (again, Happy Birthday from another b'day "boy" of today's vintage!) [:D][;)]
It is a really good rifle and caliber combo.
Open sights are great for younger perfect eyes, I have some sort of optic on all my rifles now that I have reached that age of need.
I vote for open sights!
It's a lever gun.
As others have posted, its a lever gun/brush gun. I'd personally leave it open sights.
(Like my 1952 Burlwood stock Win 94 .30-.30.) [:D]
Congrats.
Taking this one to the range tomorow to sight in for a upcoming hog hunt.
Tomorrow I have to hang around the house, as I have to take 1 dog for her yearly vet appointment. I might try my hand at smoking some chicken breasts as well. Friday, I will hopefully get this rifle out and shoot it.
