Ruger P85

What would you pay for a nice serviceable Ruger P85 9mm pistol?

I know that some don't like the clunky old pistols and some love the little tanks, but seeing an apple for an apple....being the Ruger P-series pistol that brought all others....what is a reasonable price to pay if offered one?

Note: This one had the de-cocker upgraded to the MK-II version.

what would I pay for it? I'm not up on gun prices. your going to get an answer from the peanut gallery! it is YOOGLY. fugly. in the most run-of-the-mill caliber possible, in a package large enough to be shooting 10mm. but it is built like tank so it gets more than the 100$ I would pay for a Llama or a Bersa Thunder. doesn't get 250 because I would start thinking about a beat-up Glock instead. I'd say 175 sounds fair. (decent condition, 1 mag)

Very dependable shooter and underappreciated. iirc, the mk11's were less than $300 retail in 1990-1992.
I'd start at $100 and go up to around $275, $300 if you really want it. Depending on where you're located, prices will vary.
(I picked one up for $75 a few years ago)

That's why I won't sell or trade mine. As clunky as it is I feel it is worth more than the money I'd get for it.

Ruger P series extremely reliable are worthy though not pretty. 200 would be a fair baseline to work around.

I agree. Somewhere this side of $200.
I wouldn't take that for mine, of course.

Only gun I ever sold, and lost money on. My own fault.

In between jobs. Sold one to help pay bills. Sold it to the Pawn shop in town. (Yeah, I know.)

Paid the power bill & then some though.

I liked it. Like others have said. "Built like a tank."

I would have no qualms about buying another. A very good, reliable handgun for the $$.

    Thanks guys.

There is a guy selling one for $265 with a 10 round and a 15 round mag. There is some holster wear on the outside, but the inside is very clean. I was amazed when he sent me pictures of it disassembled.

I'm still going back and fourth on it. I'm a longtime Ruger guy, so having a P85 in the safe would be kinda neat for me.

I picked up one last October in 99% condition with the box and paperwork for $200.00. They are an under rated pistol. I have two of them and they are both reliable on any ammo I've run through em.

The Ruger KP-90 was my first pistol..that thing was a brick, but it ran well.

I told him I would take it.

A nice reliable gun chambered in 9mm for under $300....and some collectability to me to boot. I figure I can't go wrong even if I overpaid some.

That's right in the market range for my area, $250 - $275. I really like the P-series Rugers, they fit my hand well. That's what I used when I qualified for my CCP.

Ok you bought it now do yourself a favor and buy a Hogue grip for it. I think their part number is 85000. You will not believe how much better that P series gun will feel. I'm telling you don't even think about it. Just order one. You can thank me latter.

I have a KP89DC that I bought right before the 1994 HiCap Ban kicked in. I got it the same day as my ParaOrdnance P14-45.

That Ruger shoots very well. I have lighter, more compact 9mm guns, but that is the one I take for a sidearm when I hunt.

    I wouldn't sell mine.
