Rules for the Non Military (or Military in civvies(?))
Dear Civilians, "We know that the current state of affairs in our great nation has many civilians up in arms and excited to join the military. For those of you who can't join, you can still lend a hand. Here are a few of the areas where we would like your assistance:
1. The next time you see an adult talking (or wearing a hat) during the playing of the National Anthem---kick their *.
2. When you witness, firsthand, someone burning the American Flag in protest---kick their *.
3. Regardless of the rank they held while they served, pay the highest amount of respect to all veterans. If you see anyone doing otherwise, quietly pull them aside and explain how these veterans fought for the very freedom they bask in every second. Enlighten them on the many sacrifices these veterans made to make this Nation great. Then hold them down while a disabled veteran kicks their *.
4. (GUYS) If you were never in the military, DO NOT pretend that you were. Wearing battle dress uniforms (BDUs) or Jungle Fatigues, telling others that you used to be "Special Forces," and collecting GI Joe memorabilia, might have been okay when you were seven years old. Now, it will only make you look stupid and get your * kicked.
5. Next time you come across an Air Force member, do not ask them, "Do you fly a jet?" Not everyone in the Air Force is a pilot. Such ignorance deserves an *-kicking (children are exempt).
6. If you witness someone calling the US Coast Guard 'non-military', inform them of their mistake---and kick their *.
7. Next time Old Glory (the US flag) prances by during a parade, get on your damn feet and pay homage to her by placing your hand over your heart. Quietly thank the military member or veteran lucky enough to be carrying her---of course, failure to do either of those could earn you a severe *-kicking.
8. Don't try to discuss politics with a military member or a veteran. We are Americans, and we all bleed the same, regardless of our party affiliation. Our Chain of Command is to include our Commander-In-Chief (CinC). The President (for those who didn't know) is our CinC regardless of political party. We have no inside track on what happens inside those big important buildings where all those representatives meet. All we know is that when those civilian representatives screw up the situation, they call upon the military to go straighten it out. If you keep asking us the same stupid questions repeatedly, you will get your * kicked!
9. 'Your mama wears combat boots' never made sense to me---stop saying it! If she did, she would most likely be a vet and therefore, could kick your *!
10. Bin Laden and the Taliban are not Communists, so stop saying 'Let's go kill those Commies!' And stop asking us where he is! Crystal balls are not standard issue in the military. That reminds me---if you see anyone calling those damn psychic phone numbers, let me know, so I can go kick their *!
11. 'Flyboy' (Air Force), 'Jarhead' (Marines), 'Grunt' (Army), 'Squid' (Navy), 'Puddle Jumpers' (Coast Guard), etc., are terms of endearment we use describing each other. Unless you are a service member or vet, you have not earned the right to use them. That could get your * kicked.
12. Last, but not least, whether or not you become a member of the military, support our troops and their families. Every Thanksgiving and religious holiday that you enjoy with family and friends, please remember that there are literally thousands of soldiers, sailors, marines and airmen far from home wishing they could be with their families. Thank God for our military and the sacrifices they make every day. Without them, our country would get it's * kicked."
"It is the Veteran, not the reporter who has given us the freedom of the press.
"It is the Veteran, not the poet, who has given us the freedom of speech.
It is the Veteran, not the campus organizer, who gives us the freedom to demonstrate.
"It is the Military who salutes the flag, who serves beneath the flag, and whose coffin is draped by the flag, who allows the protester to burn the flag."
(Please pass this on so I won't have to kick your *!) :-) "If you can read this, thank a teacher" If you are reading it in English, thank a Veteran [:)] [^]

Thanks for posting it.
Many times I have stated my guilt at not serving in the military when I was younger. It was a mistake and one that affects me every day.
I was with my young 4-5 YO son at a basketball game this season. As the national anthem played I asked him to stand and hold his hand over his heart which he did. The college aged kids next to me continued thier conversation throughout the natiional anthem and laughed at the formation (color guard) as they marched across the floor.
Normally a very easygoing person, I quietly asked them to be quiet. One of them replied with a #$%^ you. Before I could reply...the man in front of me was over the seat and after them...security came and the two youths were excused from the game.
I have to admit that it does get to you seein how all the civies act sometimes, even while being proud to make sure they are able to act that way.

Reminds me of this one time...
(and the Gunbroker members roll their collective eyes and sigh)
I was home on leave from the Navy in 1982-or-83 and at the July 4th parade here in my hometown. Being proud as I was of being in the Military, I wore my dress whites to the parade. I stood next to a man in his 60's who slouched, hands in pockets, hat on head while Old Glory approached. I just told him to take his damn hat off and show a little respect. He shot me a dirty look, but he by god put his hat over his heart. I had enough time to render my snappiest salute as the flag went by.
And I didn't even have to threaten to kick his *.
Times are different now.
Good times, good times.
We got a new O-6 to take over this unit and he wanted to meet the civilians working for them. This SMSgt. opened the door to let the Colonel in and said "Room....Commander" and all of the civilians stood up quick.
I was already standing but was shocked that civilians stood for a military officer....heck they did it better than the majority of the E-1's-E-4's I've seen.
and how bout changing that shameful Don't ask don't tell policy[:(]
Don't re-up till they do!

This one I liken to brothers and sisters fighting. They may fight and scream at each other all the time, but let an outsider try to start something with one of them and watch that person catch the wrath of all the others.
I was in the Army National Guard (Weekend Warriors) and I'll gladly make fun of any of the other branches of service when I see them. And I also will gladly buy any of them a drink when I'm at a bar and find out they are still on Active Duty. Plus, I would be right behind them if someone wanted to start anything with them.
Nice post [:)]
Thank you
They were playing retreat and a Captain kept walking and jumped into his SUV and drove off. I asked the MSgt next to me if he saw that Captain. He replied yes he did, that man is a Reservist Captain and running for Lt. Governor of the Island of Guam.
Absolutely no respect for anything except himself.
ATF I dont know you, But I like you already!
+1

I'm guessing that this letter was written soon after 9-11 when there was a large surge in military enrolments. Now enrollment is down all across the board, recruiters are getting protested at schools, court battles are ongoing, anti military sentiments are probably at their highest levels since Vietnam and most people are too out of shape to even get into the military if they wanted to. My question, for the great minds here on GB, is where do you see the military in 10 years? 20 years?
