At the local show yesterday a fair amount of 22 ammo for sale at $40 for a 225 box or $50 for a full brick. Prices have not really changed much in 2.5 years. I have never seen any of it actually sell, but prices remain high so I guess somebody must be buying it.

Ad in the paper this morning has a local sporting goods store offering Aguila 22 ammo at $40 a brick. Ad says they have 500,000 rounds in stock.

In the classifieds of the paper some guy was selling CCI 22 ammo. He is asking $25 for a box...of 50. But if you buy 4 he'll knock off 5 bucks to $95 for 200 rounds.

No Unique at the show. Most other powders were offered by the big dealers (around $27 a pound so a little high but not outrageous) but nobody has gotten Unique for 6 months or so. Why is that one powder in short supply?

we were looking for 2400 for the last 6 months without success. $27 a pound is a good price around here in PA for any powder.

Doc, you must be one of the last guys on earth using Unique[:D]

I have a pound or 2 I would give you if you lived in NC. AA5 is a great substitute for Unique especially with cast bullets, it burns cleaner, meters better and is more consistent. If you cannot find AA5 try True Blue it almost the same thing.

    Blasphemy, I say, blasphemy.!!![;)][:D]
Unique is, well; it is, Unique. Nothing is better for all around reloading, nothing is as versatile, nothing as well tested, nothing can be used in everything from the 50BMG down to 25ACP. It can be shot in every pistol round, every rifle cartridge ever made. Unique can not be replaced. Some powders come close but still fall short of that marvelous powder!

If the world ended making powders today I would be fine with IMR 4895 and Unique to last me the remainder of time.

OH don't get me wrong I love the dirt that burns as much as the next guy[:D] BUT it is hard to find, more expensive and I have moved on. I am sorry if I have upset the reloading gods with my abandonment of Unique.

BYW 4895 is one of my go to powders. I have not given it up for Varget, yet[;)]

Unique is the only powder I use for my 41 and 44 magnum. I get the best results with it. I tried five or six other powders with no results. On a whim and tip from an old time reloader, I tried Unique. I now have three pounds of it stashed away so I can enjoy these calibers. The only other powder that is somewhat okay in my 41, is Winchester 296, but it burns a little to quick. Oakie

Oakie I am not sure I would go in the books as an oldtime reloader but I have been reloading since 1975. I have used many pounds of Unique and like I said its good powder and very universal.

That said I like AA#5 better in 44 and 41 mag with cast bullets for moderate loads. I really like it in 45 acp and 45 Colt. I load with a Dillon 550 and the AA#% meters so much better than Unique, its cleaner and I have found it to be more consistent shot to shot with cast bullets(which I cast and size myself).

I've been reloading for nearly 40 years and quickly settled on 3 powders for simplicity. I use 2400 for Magnums, Unique for all other handguns. Rifles get 4064 since it seems to work well in all my calibers and I want to just keep one keg in stock.

Those are definitely old school. I will look around to see what I can use that is readily available.

I use Unique for all of my pistol loads unless I'm going for magnum loads, then I switch over H110.
