What's a good Coyote round for the semi-suburbs, # 4 buckshot? VA announced that our coyote population is in the thousands and growing 20%/year. Western VA counties are already offering bounties.

Slugs. Shot guns work great and a slug is going to be more reliable. it has an effective range of 100 yds but may travel 200.

I've hit them with #4 Buckshot before and had them crawl off. Multiple sots should fix that problem. Silenced .17HRM and be careful of where the bullets go. I know for sure that 17HMR works very well on yotes out to 120 yards.

No.1 buckshot, No.4 buckshot. BB's. IF steel shoot out of a I/C choke.

I've dropped several with 00 buck. 4B gives a little more dense pattern, but the pellets are pretty light and don't seem to hit them quite as hard as 00.

A 17HMR doesn't sound bad, but any small bore with a light/frangible bullet might work for you. My agency tested Hornady TAP rounds for in-door use of .223's and found that they break up after hitting pretty much anything. I believe these use their regular V-Max bullet, just maybe pushed a little faster than their standard hunting load.

I would choose #4 Buch shot as well, but out in the woods I use my 22-250 or .223. I havent hit one yet that didnt drop. Good Luck!!

As a "round" could be construed as almost anything one launches downrange; I have always found that m-80s from a slingshot can be very effective for varmint control-if the noise don't get 'em; dip it in glue and roll it in BBs. You don't have to be accurate, just get it near 'em.
For large crowds of "opera dogs", use a 20ga. shell inside the neck of a pop bottle-you figure out the rest.

What range(s) are you talking about? How far to the nearest neighbor? Is it legal to discharge a firearm where you are talking about? Many questions, many questions.
Answer some of these and "we" will help you find an acceptable solution.

    My county:

Has about 18,000 people, and seems like an equal number of deer and turkey. We are up to 12 stoplights now. There are small developments and villages but no incorporated towns yet. There are VA prohibitions on firecrackers but no county rules on firearm discharges. I have spent a 4th of July on my front steps firing a 50 cal muzzleloader with newsprint loads. In my area, the neighbors are 500'-1500' away across tree-covered ravines.
