Henry Yellow Boy, .17 rimfire problem
use enough gun

A friend of mine called yesterday, he'd just picked a YB in .17 rimfire. He shot 2 rounds through it, the second round blew the rim off the case. I had him bring it over so I could look at it. I showed me the 2 cases and I told him there was a headspace problem. Both cases were bulged out on the rim. Looked at the rifle and it turned out that it would fire when the lever and bolt assembly weren't completely locked. It was the first lever gun he's had and I'm guessing he didn't have the lever 'locked' completely.
We called Henry and they want the rifle back ASAP, lifetime warrenty, they said they'd fix it or replace it with a new rifle. My friend was lucky it was just a .17, he just got light burns on his cheeks and ringing ears. Dave

Tell him next time he loads it to hold the gun at an angle instead of straight up and down[;)]
When people drop shells in, it has a long way to fall and pick up speed in the magazine tube so it knocks the bullet down into the casing of the shells loaded previously creating an over pressure. Generally the first 2 or 3 will rupture since they are the ones that got hit the hardest.
EDIT- I guess I didn't read the whole thing and skipped the part about the bolt not locking, but I have had several people bring them back to me with the burst cases problem.
