Are Parsnips good with steak?

I can't remember ever eating them before.I found a recipe that said to cut peel them then cut them up and boil till tender.
Then dry them off and brown them up in a little butter and oil.I'll use bacon drippins.
What do they taste like? I thought maybe a turnip but, they don't have hardly any smell at all....
Anyone here eat them often? I have them cut up and started on the stove in cold water.
Is their anything better I should do instead of par boil and fried?

Par boil, and pan fry in butter.

    Good with everything.

Boiled and buttered parsnips have a very faint turnip-like flavor, but very mild. Very little flavor, actually. I've never had them browned in fat, but that sounds interesting. They're normally used in soups and stews, where they turn creamy and delicate.
    I may be a bit crazy - but I didn't drive myself.

I peel them fry in butter in a cast iron skillet. No boiling needed, cook till tender or slightly carmelized, and enjoy the heck out of them.

I did the parsnips just like home fried taters and they are FRIGGIN AMAZING!!!
They have the texture of fried potatoes but a certain mellow sweetness, kind of..
I know one thing,I WILL be eating them more often!!

We had some very lean years growing up and grew parsnips because they kept well in a root cellar.

Somethings that are forced upon you out of necessity become a burden, some are held dear to the heart.

Parsnips are held dear. Smelt is not.
