Ford Motor Company on Tuesday announced plans to cancel the building of a $1.3 billion plant in Mexico and instead invest $700 million in a Michigan assembly plant, directly tying the decision to "pro-growth policies" championed by President-elect Donald Trump.
Trump had previously been critical of Ford's plans to build in Mexico.
CEO Mark Fields, speaking at an event at the Flat Rock Assembly Plant, said the policies that Trump "and the new Congress have indicated they will pursue" were vital to the company's decision.
"We believe these tax and regulatory reforms are necessary to boost U.S. competitiveness," Fields said.
The investment in the Flat Rock plant is set to create 700 jobs, according to Fields. The money will be used to open a new factory used to build high-tech autonomous and electric vehicles as well as the Mustang and Lincoln Continental, the company said in a press release.
"I am thrilled that we have been able to secure additional UAW-Ford jobs for American workers," UAW Vice President Jimmy Settles said in the release. "The men and women of Flat Rock Assembly have shown a great commitment to manufacturing quality products, and we look forward to their continued success with a new generation of high-tech vehicles."

In red above:
Fields is playing this well. If Congress and Trump do not deliver, the conditions 'vital' to Ford's decision will not exist. My guess is that ground breaking in Michigan will not begin until the pro-growth tax and regulatory policies from Washington DC are in place.
It forces Trump and Congress to follow through with what was stated, and gives Ford an out and a pair of scape-goats if it does not.
Hopefully Trump and Ryan follow through, and the plant expansion takes place.

I Grew Old Too Fast (And Smart Too damn Slow !!!) !!! :?
If Trump brings back Ford and GM, the Rust Belt will be GOP country for a generation.
RINO's will fill the offices at best.....
For this to work, it is now up to the American consumer to assume the only really important role in this charade.
If we do not take our role seriously, all the big government prodding and carrots will accomplish nothing.
We, as consumers, now have to do that which (had we done it over the past 50 year) would have made this Presidential-elect intrusion unnecessary.
We need to look at the damn label and purchase USA made products.
A Ford assembled in Michigan will be more expensive than one assembled in Mexico. If we are unwilling to pay the difference, it will not matter what Trump says or what the individual states do regarding tax relief.
Trump and Pence have done their part by shaming and offering relief to companies which have bent to their will and/or taken advantage of their largesse.
This is all for naught if you don't insist upon a US manufactured HVAC unit or a Made in USA automobile in the future.
It is time to step up or shut up.
It is my hope you do the former.
