What You Need To Believe To Be A Republican

From a Libertarian:

Jesus loves you, and shares your hatred of homosexuals and Hillary Clinton.

Saddam was a good guy when Reagan armed him, a bad guy when Bush's daddy made war on him, a good guy when Cheney did business with him, and a bad guy when Bush needed a "we can't find Bin Laden" diversion.

Trade with Cuba is wrong because the country is Communist, but trade with China and Vietnam is vital to a spirit of international harmony.

The United States should get out of the United Nations, and our highest national priority is enforcing U.N. resolutions against Iraq.

A woman can't be trusted with decisions about her own body, but multinational corporations can make decisions affecting all mankind without regulation.

The best way to improve military morale is to praise the troops in speeches, while slashing veterans' benefits and combat pay.

If condoms are kept out of schools, adolescents won't have sex.

A good way to fight terrorism is to belittle our longtime allies, then demand their cooperation and money.

Providing health care to all Iraqis is sound policy, but providing health care to all Americans is socialism. HMOs and insurance companies have the best interests of the public at heart.

Global warming and tobacco's link to cancer are junk science, but creationism should be taught in schools.

A president lying about an extramarital affair is impeachable, but a president lying to enlist support for a war in which thousands die and billions of dollars wasted is solid defense policy.

Government should limit itself to the powers named in the Constitution, which include banning gay marriages and censoring the Internet.

The public has a right to know about Hillary's cattle trades, but George Bush's driving record is none of our business.

Being a drug addict is a moral failing and a crime, unless you're a conservative radio host. Then it's an illness and you need our prayers for your recovery.

Supporting "Executive Privilege" for every Republican ever born, who will be born, or who might be born (in perpetuity.)

What Bill Clinton did in the 1960s is of vital national interest, but what Bush did in the '80s is irrelevant.

Support for hunters who shoot their friends and blame them for wearing orange vests similar to those worn by the quail.

Feel free to pass this on. If you don't send it to at least 10 other people, we're likely to be stuck with more Republicans in '06 and '08.

Friends don't let friends vote Republican. [;)][;)]

Ha, yeah those are some of the reasons why i am not a repub. anymore. I left when I heard the speechs like "a govt that governs least governs best, but we need to do something about abortion"

The democrats are even more aimless, though. I trust neither one. look how neither will protect our borders. spending (even discresionary non military) is even worse under bush than clinton

you think the democrats are squeaky clean.
No draft dodging, no protesting on foreign
soil, I dont agree with everything President
Bush has done, But I damn sure know I dont
want a President Al Gore or another Billy boy
Clinton. The disrespect for our military from
The Clintons, are going to keep paying her back.

He never praised the Democrats. But then again the Dems aren't in power right now, so its only fitting that we look critically at the GOP (because they seem just as inept at governing as Dems).

A libertarian would not blame just Republicans. I am a libertarian and the GOP pisses me off about half the time and the Dems piss me off the rest of the time.

Oh, and shouldn't this be in the political forum?

So you're willing to do one of two things:

    1. Throw out your vote, knowing that a libertarian candidate doesn't stand a snowball's chance in hell of being elected president.

    2. Throw out your vote, knowing that a libertarian candidate doesn't stand a snowball's chance in hell of being elected president, and bragging to all your friends that you voted libertarian.

Yesterday, I said in the soul food restaurant thread that you didn't have chains of soul food restaurants because chain restaurants require mass appeal and acceptance. Politics is no different.

You may like some of the things that libertarians have to say. That doesn't mean that those things are good ("good" in this sense means acceptable by a majority of people). Some of the stuff that the Libertarian Party pushes is, in fact, unappealing to a majority of voters. That's one of the reasons why, in the last thirty years, libertarian candidates haven't made a dent in national politics, and I predict that they won't do any better in the next thirty years.

Even if a libertarian were to win office (I'm willing to go to Fantasyland for a few moments, sometimes these trips are fun), it would require libertarians to sweep Congress as well for anything to get done. Libertarians might attract a few democrats on some social issues, like legalizing drugs, prostitution, gay marriage, abortion, etc., but once you got past the social issues, you'd lose each and every one of them on the economic issues.

In the same vein, libertarians might attract a few republicans on economic issues, such as eliminating various taxes, but once the social issues started coming up, you'd lose them for sure.

Our government works by building coalitions. Even with a "mandate" from the voters, no president rules with an iron fist, and without the help of Congress, no legislation moves forward. So, if we were by some fantasy to elect a libertarian president, without a like-minded Congress to follow lock-step, the new president would be about as useful as a sponge in the middle of a desert.

    Obviously written by someome who;

    Isn't very informed.

Thinks CNN pukes out "truth" every night.

Has a small alter to Al Gore in their bedroom closet.

Moved from San Francisco because it was too backward.

    Wears very, very tight underwear.

    Has "THE" Barbra Steisand collection...autographed.

Thinks John Kerry is a war hero.

Thinks Jane Fonda is a war hero.

Thinks OBL is a war hero.

and still mistakenly thinks Bush "stole " the election, even after six years of therapy.
