Some of you have heard me talk about my little ones and me starting them out in the world of guns. Well I finally figured out how to get pictures up on this board, so I thought I would share a couple of my kids on thier first time out shooting a real gun.

Also thought I would add: That the 22 they are holding was used as a back yard decoration for about 15 years before it was restored. It was all rusted and the stock was all weathered. No one thought it would ever be able to be fired again. My brother and my dad restored it about 20 years ago and now it looks and shoots almost like new.

Great to see you getting the kids started early. I'm a firm believer that if kids get to be around guns from an early age, they'll develop a natural respect for them. IMHO, the worst thing parents can do is tell kids that guns are evil and they should absolutely, positively never be around them. What an invitation to want to see them and experiment with them!

You are right there! My kids have always been exposed to guns being in the house. And although I do keep most of my guns locked up (I do keep 1 rifle and 1 hand gun avaible for home protection, but are up out of reach from the kids) I have no fear of my guns being out. My kids have always been taught that they are not to touch them (including their BB guns) unless I tell them it is time to go shooting. They have always respected that fact and I do reward them for that by letting them go shooting with me. They have been shooting their bb guns for about 1 1/2 years and they treat them just like any other gun. They got to shoot that 22 for the first time right after christmas and they showed more respect for that gun then most of the adults at the range.

Thats the ticket - respect of firearms - not fear and illusion..
Both of my kids started about that age and now they are 21 and 16. Both have their own firearms and know when and how to use them. I also trust my kids and tell them they are trusted to handle firearms - trust goes a long long way when kids are concerned. They have never given me cause to not trust their judgment with firearms. They make their mistakes - don't get me wrong, but thankfully most have been minor since they know something about respect...

Thanks for the GREAT pics. (and just the right size too [;)])

    Kids ARE our future.
Always glad to see when they are being raised with the right outlook concerning firearms.

Cute kids! (they don't have those big West Virginia teeth!). The guns are quite a handfull for them. Its wonderfull that you are introducing them to the shooting sports at a young age. They won't grow up to be anti's.

    Keep up the good work.

Great pics, beautiful kids. Enjoy them now...they grow and leave so fast. Make lots of memories with them.

Enjoyed a day at the range with one of mine today too. We are both blessed.
