it isn't the snow, it is the ice. Seatac airport even shut down. power outages. it's a lot more than your average snow.

Scared? Really? I haven't seen that.

When I watch weather events reported by the media in other parts of the country it would seem that they are all predicting the end of times and neighbors eating neighbors just to survive.

Yeah, Power and Water have been off as much as on today - Nt scared.

We have food, water, and supplies for at least a Month for sure - Not scared.

Icefall off House roof has hammered the Greenhouse three different times - no permanent damage, but am getting tired going out there to replace the Roof panels, reset the CB for the heaters, and shoveling out the snow and Ice.

Snowed from Wed through last night here in Yakima. Got about 10" on the ground at my house. Not worried. Just had a cord of dry split elm delvered, & stacked in the garage, food & water, a jeep with good tires and slow days at work--all is well here. Not sure why other WA folks would be scared, unless they didn't prepare. I know some folks on the West side do not have fireplaces but they could get a catalytic heater and crack a window if the power went out. It's the media that portrays that the Seattle area people are saying the sky is falling.

The people that live in Cordova, AK are the ones that had a reason to be worried.

Had a little old lady down the street get stuck today though--cuz she was trying to drive a POS Ford Taurus with bald tires[:o)]

My daughter just moved to Seattle from Rochester. She said they got about 6 inches and I saw 28 on the TV. She laughs because school was shout down 3 days last week. She sees plows once in a while but never plowing, just driving by. He neighbor was scraping the windshield with a spoon. They just arent prepared for it because they seldom get it.

In the Rochester area we had about 13 inches. Power just on last night about 5:00 pm after 20 hour outage. Ice storm caused most of the damage--I lost a few limbs to breakage.

Little Honda EU200 generator ran for the duration, using about 2.5 gal of fuel ( you can't hear it run inside the house.)

Powered (intermittently) 2 freezers, refrigerator, 1500 watt heater, and 150 incandescent lamp. It shut down to an idle and ran my CPAP all night on a couple of cups of fuel. Used a 1-burner butane stove for coffee and other cooking. Fuel is readily available. Coleman Propane lantern provided extra lighting.

We were pretty comfortable, but bored. Two teenage grandaughters had never heard the term "sponge bath", and did an inordinate amount of whining about needing a shower.

My wife and I were content to stay home, but others seemed to need in and out, which involved a lot of shoveling, pushing, cussing and tire spinning.

We survived pretty well, and could have for a couple of weeks. Anything more would have been a problem, due primarily to shortage of water.

These kinds of snows happen every few years, and are just part of normal climate. This winter is similar to '72, when we had about the same amount of snow. In '68-69 we had about 36 inches in Olympia, and during the winter of '53-54, we had about 4 ft. at Lilliwaup.

As a newly arrived immigrant from Arkansas, I heard lots of tales about the "blizzard" of '49, but was not here to witness it.

I will say this, if you have never driven in DOWNTOWN Seattle on a sunny day then you have no business being down there on a snow day in a vehicle with no studded tires/chains/4x4--it will be an epic fail on your part. For an area that might see one or two snow days a year folks should just stay off the road if they have no experience. There are a a lot hills in the downtown area that rival stuff in San Francisco and are bad enough in the rain-bring on ice and it's a skating rink on wheels.

we completly dodged this event. I got maybe 4 inches during the whole event and it is all gone as of this AM. I guess the south Puget sound really got dumped on which is wierd cuz usually the snow happens up here
