I never thought I'd see the day when it went above $100 per horse - but it did that quite some time ago.
    I may be a bit crazy - but I didn't drive myself.

I just got a new pontoon boat with a 60hp Hi-Thrust Yamaha installed on it. My bill of sale from the dealer has the motor listed at $7,000.

I do not know if the price of the controls and rigging are included in that or they were added into the cost of the boat. I assume they are in the cost of the boat itself. Another thought is you probably won't get quite as good of a price for the motor alone vs a boat/motor/trailer package.

I bought a smaller 18ft fish/cruise Bennington pontoon and am very happy with the Yamaha. Max rating is 60hp or I would have gone bigger but it still does 20mph on average. A buddy has a 1 year old 20ft Sun Catcher with 25'' tubes and a 70hp Yamaha and I believe his motor was pushing $9,000 but again I don't know where they put the cost of rigging on his bill either plus it was a different dealer.

The Suzuki number are high compared to here.

The DF 70 run about 9K. I like the DF80, it weighs the same and only cost about $200 more than the 70.

I was going to buy a new Suzuki 50hp outboard and a local marine mechanic talked me out of it. No one around here - including him- works on them. No warranty support unless I drive several hours. If I was buying new, I would either get a Tohatsu or Mercury. I ended up getting a used Mercury for a good deal and it has been good so far. I prefer Mercury outboards. Bought a brand new 150 Optimax in 2010. Great motor. The Tohatsu outboards are hard to beat (some are branded as Nissan, but Nissan does not make them Tohatsu does). Best of luck with whatever you choose.

I like the Tohatsu engines, but they are pricey like the rest.Local dealer told me Tohatsu built 60HP down and the 70 or 75 HP up are re-badged Hondas.

My next door neighbor just bought the Evinrude Etec and he loves it. Came with a 10 year warranty and 25% lighter then the 4 strokes...

My parents have a 70HP ETec on their Sweetwater 22 footer. Nice motor. Dad loves it.

Quiet, lots of power, light, clean. No 2-stroke smell.

Can't help on price, I think I remember dad bitching about spending 10k on a motor, so it may be right on.
