Apple bringing back the flip-phone

Apple has a new patent to make foldable phones.
The company was granted a patent for a foldable touchscreen device. You may have thought flip phones were a thing of the past, but they could now be a big part of Apple's future.
The phone would feature hinges and OLED screens, which tend to be thinner and don't break under pressure. Samsung already uses OLED screens for its phones, but Apple has yet to make the switch. OLED technology is rumored to be a key addition in the iPhone 8. The latest patent, though, could be what we're talking about come iPhone 9 or 10.
Apple isn't the only one trying to become more flexible. Samsung has been talking about folding smartphones for years now. Think of a phone that rolls out like a projection screen or one that just folds in half. Apple appears to be looking at phones that fold in multiple places.
Malleable displays are one of those holy grails in the tech world. It's anyone's guess whether Apple or Samsung will ship the phones. One recent report puts a Samsung foldable phone on the market as early as next year.
