.375 arrived: UPDATE

Got the .375 H&H in today. I can't tell it's been shot, the magazine follower doesn't even have a mark on it. No scratches, no dings. The only thing on it at all is the least outline where the rear scope mount was. They removed the scope prior to shipping. I down loaded and printed an owners manual from the Weatherby website, (handy customer service).

Funny, in the manual it list the Vanguard being chambered in .223 to .338, but mine is a .375 and I downloaded it straight from the link on the .375 page.

I haven't receives the ammo etc. yet, but I look forward to shooting it when I do. I think I'll line up the iron sites before mounting the scope. I may get another scope and rings. It came with Tally rings, front and rear, both base and ring together, aluminum.

I may mount a different set of rings. What say you to the Tally aluminum ones? 3x9x40 weaver scope with BDC marks, I'll probably mount something else there too, what's the recommendations?

Update: Love the .375! Lined up the open sites today, shot some 300gr and 270gr rounds. The 300gr rounds let you know they happened but really aren't bad at all, a 12ga slug gun has more recoil, the .270's were a calk walk.

I had never handled one of the Vanguards and want to say I am pleased and pleasantly surprised, shoots great, good trigger, much better rifle than I thought a Vanguard would be.

I am happy with this purchase and look forward to hunting with this rifle.

I'm still appalled at how you stole that rifle.
Thanx for taking the opportunity to throw it back in our faces.
BTW, low power variable from Nikon.
Happy shooting to you and I expect a range report.
    Arrivederci gigi

on four trips to africa to hunt i used a CZ-550 in .375 H&H and was not under gunned, i shot most of my plains game with it, from elan to worthog. on my cape buffalo i was ask if i wanted to shoot it with a old MS in 9.3x62 backed up by the .375 H&H and i did with no problem. you can load the 375 H&H for small game and up for very large amimals. mr myopic.

    SCOUT5,

    Congratulations on the new arrival!

Just for fun, I looked up the rifle on the internet to see what some of the specs were. Interesting that they off a 'sub-MOA' accuracy guarantee. It specifically states that it will shoot a 0.99" target or better.

I find that amusing since most of us have known about the accuracy of this cartridge for years.

I can suggest the Talley rings you are asking about. I've used them on quite a few rifles with significant recoil. I also agree with setting up the irons sights first while you're waiting on the scope. I was forced to test that concept a few years ago on an elk hunt when I fell down a scree slope and knocked the scope around on my 7x64 Guild rifle. Back in camp I removed the scope and set up a target at 100 yards. I am not known for my ability to shoot iron sights but I managed to pull off a 3/4" - 3 shot group prone. Then I went on to kill a nice young bull for the freezer.

    Enjoy your rifle!

    Best.
