Why I voted Democrat

I voted Democrat because I believe oil companies' profits of 4% on a gallon of gas are obscene but the government taxing the same gallon of gas at 15% isn't.
I voted Democrat because I feel minorities should have more rights than whites to make up for injustices which happened decades ago. I feel guilty being white.
I voted Democrat because I believe the government will do a better job of spending the money I earn than I would.
I voted Democrat because Freedom of speech is fine as long as nobody is offended by it.
I voted Democrat because I'm way too irresponsible to own a gun, and I know that my local police are all I need to protect me from murderers and thieves.
I voted Democrat because I believe that people who can't tell us if it will rain on Friday can tell us that the polar ice caps will melt away in twenty years if I don't start driving a Prius.
I voted Democrat because I think illegal aliens have a right to free health care, education, and Social Security benefits.
I voted Democrat because I believe that business should not be allowed to make profits for themselves. They need to break even and give the rest away to the government for redistribution as theDemocrats see fit.
I voted Democrat because I believe liberal judges need to rewrite the Constitution every few days to suit some fringe kooks who would never get their agendas past the voters.
I voted Democrat because I think that it's better to pay billions of dollars for oil to people who hate us, but not drill our own because it might upset some endangered beetle or gopher.

Most people voted Republican in 2010 because the Democrats decided to one-up those aforementioned morons.
the oil companies only refine oil into gasoline, whereas the tax on gasoline pays for the vast majority of the roads I drive on.
When Exxon and Shell and whatnot pay for my roads, I will be happy to give them the 15% profit...but I'd better not have to stop every 100 miles to listen to a 5 minute commercial from those companies...OR ELSE!
America needs another Ronald Reagan. End of discussion
So we can add more gun laws and double down on spending?

True I did, but he wasn't all that great in the end.
Reagan's speech in 64 was a man I could relate to; by the time he took office I don't believe he had the same values.
No president is free from critique, and no politician for that matter.
But all that is lost unless you have a vigilant small gov. population.

what "good" things???
If you mean the fall of the Soviet Union, that would have happened no matter who was in office. Thats was the result of policies put in place by every president from Truman out.

Even as a ten year old I went from thinking our country was, eh... what?... to being proud of it, same as everybody else who paid attention to the embarrassment of Carter.
Either you weren't born, or you conveniently revise history in your own mind for the sake of your left-ness.
A lot of democrats voted for Reagan against Mondale, A LOT!

It was Mondale, what more needs to be said?
Sadly, he has made some good points to me, but fails to see the danger in the masses voting any warm body in that will give them the most money or who will vote over skin color. He sees equal danger in people voting strictly based on religion or abortion.
To him, the democrat party stands for the working people and is the voice of the common man. They care more about the environment. They implement programs that "help people" while the republicans just want to take them all away. (No worries over whether we can actually, feasibly, afford them. Since we're paying for the Iraq and Afghanistan adventures, than the govt. should have an open check book for this country in his opinion.)
Doesn't care about abortion or gay marriage and believes people have the right to make those decisions. Neutral on the gun issue, but leans to the pro-gun side. Absolutely unwilling to learn how many negative things the party is about.
Criticizes the tea party as being the extreme right wing. So I ask, "why isn't there a branch off party for the extreme left wing? Answer: The new democrat party is already filling that role!" Wants government to completely take over health care and eliminate the insurance companies 100% to eliminate there having to be a profit.
Which I think is a great idea! If the govt. (in some other dimension) could ever be trusted and was COMPETENT enough to do it!! We've already trusted them with other programs and they are bankrupt. Proven failures. So why should we let them bankrupt another program? Absolutely against phasing out social security. Says "it should have a surplus if they'd just quit stealing it." I tell him, "but these are the people you want to trust with MORE of your money!!" lol
I don't believe he fully understands what he is supporting at all. But let me tell you guys, this isn't just some dummy. Probably one of the smartest people I know. An actual 'thinker' who still supports the democrat agenda. It's strange to say the least. I've tried my best to lay out the negatives. He's always got a come back.

Most of the country voted Democrat in 2008 because the morons of the Republican party screwed things up so badly they the thought of voting for them again made most people puke.
Most people voted Republican in 2010 because the Democrats decided to one-up those aforementioned morons.
Look at the economy in 2006 when the democrats took over the financial matters (They won both house and senate, remember??)and where they took it in 2008 and blamed Bush for what they did.
With the distortion of the media to lay the blame elsewhere they then said they could fix it.
How are they doing with that???

Keep in mind it was Bush budgets that they approved. And for that matter, all he has to do is call a press conference every week and say, "It's not me, it's them and here's the proof" to refute the media, but he didn't because it would have been EXACTLY the same with a doofocrat for potus. TWO WINGS, SAME BIRD!!!
And of course they are not fixing it!! The elite plan to destroy American influence to allow another to fill that role, (One world governement) moves forward no matter who the spokesperson is.
I've got a guy I've argued with quite a bit concerning democrats and republicans. I've explained thoroughly how lousy the republican party has become and that I really can't support them. I've also explained how rotten the democrat party has become. But his philosophy is strictly based on the idea that the republican party is "for the rich" and so, he has to take the democrat side by default. White collar crime steals far more from the country than welfare takes and the rich "need to pay more"! At least their, "fair share".

Good points, since the repubs are left wing POS's the conservatives had no choice but to organize something to counter the commie/socialist progressive democrat party. Nicely put.
Our govenment has done things right and wrong under many different folks. Not idolizing them but the good priciples they stood for would be a much better approach. Raking them over the coals when they did it wrong should be welcomed.
There is a danger in emotionaly protecting politicians like your mothers honor. I trust you can understand that.

Your friend may be smart, but his base hypothesis is incorrect. If a basic hypothesis is incorrect all the resulting data will be incorrect.
IMHO he needs to look at where he stands on the actual issues and compare the two parties platforms if you're forcing him to choose one.

Edit. I forgot Al Gore. Who wouldn't want to be on the same side as Al Gore?
Who do you think owns the oil companies??? It is average joes like me and you, at least the ones smart enough to buy the stock.
I want billionaires in the world. Lots and lots of rich people are very good. I never heard of poor folk hiring anyone.
Wealth is not a fixed pie. It can expand through true capitalism or shink by any other method.
There is nothing wrong with making a profit. So wht if the oil companies make a zillion dollars. It all get trickled down.

+1000 I get pretty amused when people complain about 'the rich are getting richer while the poor are getting poorer.' First- the rich getting richer, that's good; it means they can hire more people like me and expand the economy, maybe pull down some unemployment. But for the poor getting poorer- consider this. In 1949, someone working a full time summer job at minimum wage of $.40/hour could, using the Sears catalog, purchase the following:
By 2009, a full time summer job at minimum wage could net you the following:
The power of capitalism unleashed. So much for the poor getting poorer. Anyone who is poor and getting poorer has no job, or is outspending their needs and means. I.e., the problem of job-killing liberal would be do-gooders and their own selfish laziness.
By 2009, a full time summer job at minimum wage could net you the following:
Where did this chart come from? Minimum wage? Hardly!
I think someone forgot about taxes and normal living expenses.
$7.50 x 40hrs x 10 weeks = $3000 - taxes = $2250 (25% deducted)

Well, if you work for 10 weeks, then you are correct. If we're talking a college student off from college, figure this:
June and July- 61 days.
May and August-these days most schools finish up the first week in May, let's say you would start working by the 10th. So another 21 days there. Most schools start back the last week in August- let's say another 20 days there.
So in total we have 102 days. 102/7= 14.5 weeks.
This isn't allowing for weekends, suppose the guy has Sundays off, and at least one or two vacation days, then the 12.5 weeks presupposed by the chart is about right. Certainly more than 10 weeks are available to work.
If you don't work the rest of the year, as this problem supposes, you don't have to pay income tax. You won't make enough money to clear the minimum required for reporting, ergo you don't have to give up any of your hard earned money.
So it's all in your pocket. As to living expenses- now that most certainly IS a valid point, but the point of the exercise was to show that the cost of consumer goods has actually come DOWN.
The chart came from Mark Levin's show IIRC. He read it on the air, I got it off the net a few days later.
But if you want to look at cost of living- http://www.tvhistory.tv/1949 QF.htm
Milk cost 84 cents a gallon. Using the inflation calculator at http://www.westegg.com/inflation/ that would be $7.84 in today's money. Wow! So milk is less than HALF the price it was in 1949.
Bread was $.14/loaf. That would be $1.25 today. Ok, I CAN get bread that cheaply, but in general it is a LITTLE more today (I paid $1.59 yesterday).
A car cost $1650. That would be $14 690 today. Some cars can still be had for that.
Gas was $.26/gallon. That would be $2.31 today. Yes, that has gone up noticeably after inflation.
Point is- cost of living has NOT gone up appreciably since 1949. The cost of our WANTS has- cable TV, easy access to long distance phone calls (even while traveling- a Cell phone!), internet, computers, etc. etc. Maybe our hypothetical purchaser couldn't buy all that junk either in 1949 or 2009, due to cost of food, rent, etc., but any discretionary income he DID have left would go farther.
This is what I was referring to, plus a few days on either side of those dates.
I get your point.....the numbers were just way off....from my point of view.
