Is Colt still using the term "Combat Commander"

Looking at their website, I see models listed as "Commander" and "Lightweight Commander", but no "Combat Commanders"

Is it a term that's no longer in usage?

While hardly conclusive my 2005 edition of the "Official Gun Digest Book of Guns and Prices" says the following about the Combat Commander:

"The Combat Commander was produced in response to complaints from some quarters about the excessive recoil and rapid wear of the alloy - framed Commander. This model is simply a Commander with a steel frame. The Combat Commander weighs 32 oz. and is offered in blue or satin nickel with walnut grips. No longer in production."

So I guess the answer is a qualified, "maybe."

As far as I can tell, Colt is labeling steel framed Commanders as simply that.....the aluminum framed models are labeled as "Lightweight Commanders"

They list a Combat Elite and a Special Combat Government. No Combat Commander.

My book says stainless models discontinued in 1998.
    Blued models disc. in 1996.

Now they're just "Commander" or "Lightweight Commander." "Combat" must be too indicative of fighting or harm, therefore not politically correct.

    Mid-90s Double Eagle. .40S&W 4.25" barrel.
If I could go back in time, I never would have sold it . . . [:(]

Well, I guess there is our answer.

Here's something to ponder though....I downloaded the Colt 2012 catalog...and page 40 is a close-up of a gun with "Combat Commander" rollmarks.....but again, no such model appears anywhere in the catalog.

    Combat Commander may refer to a commander-length barrel . . . ?

Sperry, I have a Double Eagle Combat Commander in 40. There were only 4 guns seperating my serial number and yours.

I think that is the XSE commander model with Colt Accessories - custom grips.

Can you believe I paid $525 for mine, in 2004? Looking like it had only been range-fired?
I sold it when I moved out of California, and have never seen another.

Isn't it a beautiful shooter? Plenty of heft to tame recoil. Back when ammo was cheap,
I'd regularly take it through a dozen and a half magazines.

I think you're right. I found a picture of a new XSE (stainless) with the "Combat Commander" rollmark on the right side.

All of Colt's 1911's last year had the "100 years of Service" rollmark on that side.

It looks like "Combat Commander" is still in use....maybe just on that one model though.

Full disclosure: I'm only researching this because I always thought "Combat Commander" was a bad-* name for a pistol. [:)]

All this talk of roll marks and gun terminology has me jumpy.

I'm gonna go do a full strip and clean on a semiautomatic before I
do something silly like buy an expensive Colt I don't have time to shoot.
