The article says they were parked(The Bikes) and the Truck ran over them as it was going by.

My guess the Trucker was looking at the Bikes and drifted over(You drive where you look).

He'd better hope they weren't HA's or Outlaws, because they'll hunt him down and exact very unpleasant revenge if they were.

Sad, the side of the Interstate is not an ideal place to take a break. Too bad for them they didn't take the time to take an Exit before stopping for a break. This has happened a few times just this year with truckers falling asleep or drifting over and creaming Virginia State Troopers on traffic stops. What are the odds of falling asleep or drifting off the road of an interstate at the exact point folks are stopped, mean while for miles on either side the break down lane is empty? (rhetorical)

    "(You drive where you look)."

Not everyone. Anyone who has operated farm equipment for any length of time learns to drive straight while looking behind or to the side. How do you think a farmer can drive down the road and check all the neighbors' crops and livestock?

if this is true he didnt even know he hit them

After speaking with the tractor-trailer driver, troopers said they think he fell asleep at the wheel. Troopers said they think the only reason he stopped about half a mile up the road is because he had a flat tire from the crash.

They were stopped on the shoulder of I 85 taking a break. Assuming that one of the bikes had not broken down, they were some stupid * bikers.
You should NEVER stop on the shoulder if you can possibly keep rolling to an exit ramp.

Article says they think the truck driver fell asleep, he needs charges pressed against him.

This sucks. How could you not know you hit all them bikes. What is even sadder, is that on this day, one year ago, My best friends son was killed on a motorcycle on the same damn road in Greensboro. This is a bad omen. It also brings back some really bad memories for me and my friend. Hope they hang this ahole. The passenger in the rig didn't hear or see anything????? They didn't say. They just reported that there was a passenger in the rig. Oakie

Oakie, falling asleep at the wheel is one of th oldest excuses out there and that damned excuse has causd more BS to the HOS rules then anything else.

How did he not know?? He friggin knew because I can feel every damn bump in the road, just becsuse the truck is big doesnt mean it hides all the bumps!!

Why did he go down the road? Probably going to run!!

What was he doing? Talking and lookin around? Jerkin the gherkin? TEXTING?? Who know but he sure as hell wasnt asleep and I can't believe the * are going to buy that excuse again!!! INNATENTIVE/DISTRACTED DRIVING AND THAT DRIVER NEEDS TO GO AWAY!!

NO EXCUSE!! NONE WHATSOEVER NO FRIGGING EXCUSE AT ALL FOR THAT!!!! BUTTHEADS LIKE HIM ARE WHY THE REST OF US SUFFER!! GET RID IF THE * NOW!!!!!!

Sorry but this pisses me off to no end, another trucker, just like an active shooter brings so much trouble to the industry just like an active shooter does for gun rights [:(!][:(!]

Taking an freaking break on the shoulder of an interstate, they are some kind of stupid in my book. They make rest area and "service plaza" for that. On the other hand I would not want to be that steering wheel holder.

Stopping on the interstate unless it is an emergency is not recommended.

    Motorcycle Rule number one:
Always treat everyone else on the road as if they were trying to kill you.

I don't excuse the trucker but if you ride you should always be leary of anything else with wheels.

Lonnie, I hear you. Distracted drivers are bad, but in a big rig, they are extremely dangerous. You cannot stop them on a dime. I will admit that truck drivers are more courteous and way better drivers then most, being that they are behind that wheel most of their day. Just a real bad way to go. I just got back in tonight from a ride up to my parents home and got cut off three times and one pos almost killed me. Way too much traffic here to ride anymore, unless you go out through the pine barrens.Oakie

And a co-driver did not see the Bikes or hear anything.

He only stopped cause he had a flat.

Truer statement never maid.I spent a lot of my youth sitting on an old Farmall, cultivating Tomatoes,Cucumbers, peppers, U name it.
Getting outta-line and flipping a few hundred plants up,out of the ground in a sec. or 2,then having to spend your OWN time replanting by hand, will make U learn FAST!!
If that "driver" was tired,he should have found a coop and slept some!

Whatever their reason for being stopped, it sure doesn't look like they were any too far off the travel lane.

The reason they were on the shoulder matters not one bit. What matters is the truck driver is 100% at fault, he tried to run and is playing everyone for STUPID using that "I fell askeep" sorry assed excuse!!!

    He DID NOT FALL ASLEEP!

He IS LYING ABOUT KNOWING HE HIT THEM!!

He need to go to prison!!

Cars stopped don't make out much better.

quote:MOUNT VERNON, Wash. (AP) - At least six people were injured in a crash involving 23 vehicles on Interstate 5 north of Seattle.

Authorities say a tractor-trailer hauling gravel was traveling southbound near Mount Vernon Saturday morning when it crossed the median and drove into stopped cars going the other direction.

Northbound traffic was backed up at the time while police investigated an earlier shooting.

Trooper Mark Francis of the Washington State Patrol tells KING-TV the truck driver had a broken arm and chest injuries, and may have had a medical condition that caused the crash.

Francis says injuries ranged from minor to critical. Two people were airlifted to a hospital.

Traffic backed up for miles as all lanes were closed in both directions.
