got a car that they don't make the ac unit anymore so I need to find a place that rebuilds them. no place here in upstate SC or close that does it. found a place in austin tx but they want $200 and I have to pay postage both ways. ouch. I'll have 250 in the darn thing. so I'm looking for someone closer that I can drop it off or someone a little cheaper.
I'd like to stay under 200. it's going on a 89 ford festiva and I don't want to put 250 plus the labor in a 500 dollar car but ya gotta have ac when the temp and humidity add up to be over 170. [xx(]

Rock Auto lists three compressors for that car.

this is the problem I'm running into. there was a factory installed AC AND a dealer installed AC. naturally I have the factory which is rare for that car. totally different compressor. the 3 rock auto have are the same type compressor - just different quality. if you look at the one that's common (easy to find) you'll see the mounting bolts run parallel to the belts and the factory one has the bolts that run parallel to the radiator.
that particular compressor isn't listed ANYWHERE I can find. (even the bay)

And to be honest that price is not bad.
And another one

That's an outdated page. That they no longer carry.
The factory unit bolts were installed parallel to the radiator. Cant remember if they were made by Murray or Sanden-AC Compressor.
Only with a V-belt pulley.
