quote:Hey everyone, just wanted to put this out there. In the last week a man has manage to steal four guns from Cabela's used gun case at the Gateway Mall. Please be on the look out for them being sold on {elsewhere}, Facebook, Instagram and other social media outlets. The merchants of mall want to catch this guy before he causes any major problems on our community. Any help you can give will be appreciated.

Had to be long guns so how did he get them out. This was a post on face book so far nothing on the news. But this Group "Lane County MugShots Uncensored" Is where I get my news early cause the news watches this page to get its stores. Bet tomorrow they have this on the news.

I do not know a Gun shop around here that keeps their long guns locked up. New ones Yes But used are out so folks can see and handle them. The hand guns are locked up and to see them an Employee must get them out and stays right with you till you hand it back.

The Guns they have out are normally Bolt, Lever and shotgun.

No make, model or serial number, and they want you to be on the lookout for four guns that got stolen from them? So what do they expect you to do? So any gun in the world that gets sold privately, you're supposed to give them a call?

    What a bunch of idiots

quote:Springfield Police are seeking the public?s help identifying and locating a man suspected of brazenly stealing assault rifles from Cabela?s, located at The Shoppes at Gateway in Springfield.

Cabela?s employees discovered the thefts last Saturday, June 24, after a mall merchant heard a muffled alarm beacon sounding from under a garment the suspect used to conceal the firearms.

The merchant spoke to Cabela?s employees and reported the incident. Cabela?s employees reviewed video surveillance and noticed the suspect had taken two Noveske assault rifles from the ?gun library? inside the store. The weapons are valued at $2,500 each.

Springfield Police are looking for the man pictured, who is a suspect in three separate incidents between June 17 and June 24, 2017, during which he stole assault rifles from Cabela?s.
Further investigation by Cabela?s led to discovering the same suspect had stolen a Century Arms assault rifle, valued at $1,000, on June 23; and a Lantac Raven assault rifle, valued at $2,500, on June 17.

The suspect used the same method to steal the rifles on all three occasions.

Police say all four firearms the suspect had stolen are high-powered rifles which are capable of carrying high capacity magazines.

The suspect is a white male believed to be in his late teens to early 20s, standing between 5?10? to 6#8242; tall and weighing about 170 pounds. He has short brown hair and was wearing a green plaid shirt, blue jeans, gray and white Nike shoes, and a green and tan hat with a yellow bill.

The suspect carried the rifles out of the store in a black jacket to conceal them.

Still need the serial number or once could accuse an innocent person of having a stolen firearm and be liable to a civil lawsuit.

Since they were stolen from a FFL, the serial numbers are in their records.

Any time a gun is stolen have you ever seen them post the Serial Number. Never seen it myself.

Remember I said the news would be showing this tomorrow well it made the evening news today.

    http://www.kezi.com/story/35793402/police-say-a-man-stole-four-assault-rifles-from-cabelas-in-broad-daylight

quote:The search is on for a man accused of stealing four assault rifles from Cabela's at Gateway Mall. They're worth more than $8,000.

Springfield Police said he took the guns on three different days, all in the middle of the day. The first two times, he took one gun. The third time, he took two at once. Police said the thefts were discovered on Saturday, June 24th when he walked through the mall when he left Cabela's. That's when a mall employee heard the guns' alarms and saw the man attempt to muffle the sound as he walked out.

"On this most recent event, the one that an employee discovered, he had two rifles in his arm," said Springfield Lt. Scott McKee. "They're heavy and probably clanking together. There's alarms going off so he's trying to conceal them.....going directly from a store and not out the exit outside, but to walk into the mall, is pretty striking as well."

Lt. Scott McKee said the employee told Cabela's staff, who then reviewed surveillance and discovered the man taking the guns. After some more investigation by staff, they found out he took the other two guns earlier in the week.

"On Friday, June 23, 2017 at 7:10 p.m the same suspect stole a Century Arms assault rifle valued at $1,000. On Saturday, June 17, 2017 at 3:50 p.m. again the same suspect stole a Lantac Raven assault rifle valued at $2,500," said Springfield Police.

The guns looked similar to these three examples.

    14280240_G.jpg

Lt. McKee said what's shocking about this, is how brazen the suspect was. He pointed out that the suspect casually walked out of the store.

"Most of the time we expect, when somebody's going to steal something, they grab it and run," said Lt. McKee. "But under these circumstances, it's somebody who just walks into the store and simply walks out. He was able to get past that pretty significant surveillance or security they have in that area."

Lt. McKee said each gun has its own alarm on the trigger, which he muffled with the jacket. The store's alarm system didn't go off. Lt. McKee said Springfield Police will be working with Cabela's staff on security measures to make sure these guns stay inside the store in the future.

He said this crime is especially concerning because these are long range, hi-powered rifles capable of carrying hi-capacity magazines. Most of the time, stolen guns are used in crime.

"Stolen guns are the guns that typically end up being involved in crime," said Lt. McKee. "And so, these are stolen guns, the presumption is that they are either in that person's hands or they have gone into someone else's hands through a purchase process that's not sanctioned."

He said this time of year, is especially concerning. He said many people celebrate the 4th of July by firing shots into the air. What goes up, must come down.

"Our primary concern for the public is that these rifles are out there and we're coming on the 4th of July weekend," said Lt. McKee. "It's not unheard of for people to celebrate by shooting firearms. And so, the concern is obviously around that. Here's a gun that's out into a criminal's hands during a pretty populated tourist weekend."

This was taken as the suspect walked into the store.

The suspect is described as a white man, in his late teens to early 20's. He's about 5'10" to 6'0" and about 170 pounds. He has short brown hair and was wearing a green plaid shirt and blue jeans. He had gray and white Nike tennis shoes and a green and tan hat, with a yellow bill. He was carrying a black jacket that he used to conceal the rifles.

If you have any information of someone trying to sell similarly described guns, or you think you know who the suspect is, call Detective Tony Delcastillo at the Springfield Police Department at 541-726-3714.

That cop & the employees are completely clueless.
I get that cops don't know squat about guns, but at least one of the hourly staff should have counted the guns before closing every night.
To get through the "pretty serious surveillance and security" at that Fort Knox of sporting goods, the guy used a super-duper, extremely cutting edge, high technology zippered windbreaker to put the guns in.
Can't wait for the new Cabela's to open here, I need a new MSR.

    Reading comprehension 101.

He stole 1 rifle. Came back another day stole 1 rifle, came back another day, got ballsy, stole 2 rifles at 1 time.

Cabela's has never sold an assault rifle. Since the police don't understand what was stolen, not much chance of them finding them.

And, according to the FBI's crime statistics, rifles are rarely used in crimes.

If by "them" you mean Cabela's .. no. However, I've seen stolen firearm serial numbers posted in newspaper ads, posters and on this forum from individuals.

The Only place I have seen it was on here. Just never in the news they will give make and model but not serial Number.
