Woke me up with the smell. How can anyone stand to be sprayed. This is bad. Eyes are watering.

Tried to see where it hit but only went out on the porch, Afraid if I go any farther that little monster will get me.

My dog and I got sprayed once when I was in Jr high. It is no fun. Mom did the tomato juice wash and that knocked it down a bit but only time got rid of all of it.

yup that smell you get on the road is heavily diluted

disposable * is the best remedy, tomato juice only works a little bit due to the vinegar content, it is the acidic ph that does it

I hit a skunk with my bicycle a coupla decades ago,

It's an experience I'd only recommend to my ex-wife's family.

    Good luck.

We had a skunk spray under my bedroom window when I was 15 or 16 years old. This was before most houses had air conditioning, so it was standard practice to have the windows open at night.

No matter what we did, my clothes smelled of skunks for a couple of weeks afterward.

Our neighbors live about 1/4 mile away from us. One night they left the outside walk-in garage door open so their Golden could come and go as he wanted to. A skunk waltzed in and started in on the dog food, which was kept near the inside garage door. That was all fine and dandy until the dog woke up and discovered the little bugger scarfing down his food. The smell woke up both my wife and me out of a dead sleep at about 4 in the morning. The neighbors ended up going to grandma's house for a week, and in the meantime they had to ozone bomb the house about 3-4 times.

Our dog before this one got sprayed, a gallon of vinegar and tomato mixed followed by a peroxide and water rinse nocked it down to just tolerable.

We were camping at Fort Pickens near Pensacola and the skunks out on the island are solid black with just the tips of their ears white. One year there was a momma with 7 or 8 babies and the kids next to us saw them and thought they were kittens. Luckily we stopped them before they got over there...

(We did startle one one night coming back from a walk on the beach one night. The entire campground LOVED us let me tell you!!!)

But it looks like it had an Argument with my Harley. So it will be getting a bath for sure this weekend.

Hunters now use a skunk kit which is dawn soap, baking soda, and hydrogen peroxide. It beats tomatoe juice by a wide margin.

About a decade ago I was pheasant hunting with my ex's family. We had hit a few birds that ran. We had several worthless labs with us and my mini dachshund who ruled the day. As we approached the end of a very large draw, my foot came down on something soft, but then it moved. I applied a little more pressure pinning what It thought was a winged pheasant. It spread the tall grass and to my horror I had a skunk pinned down under my boot. Apparently a skunk will no spray if they cannot raise their tail. I called out to my ex brother in law to come shoot it. I did not want my mini dachshund to get a hold of a live skunk he would of shredded it regardless of smell or who was around. I dove, ex brother in law shot, I rode home in he back of the pickup with the dogs!!!

an old secret with fish is to pour lemon juice over hand and rinse them off, not sure if it would work with skunk, never had, and hope never will, have the need to find out......

It?s funny how smells can bring back old memories. When I was 4, we went to live with my grandparents in WV while dad was work as a boilermaker. Way back in the country, there was often the faint smell of skunk at night.
Nowadays, I can conjure up memories of that time when I smell one around here.
