For those in Illinois, the Police State

House Bill 1294, introduced by state Representative Edward Acevedo (D-2), seeks to ban countless semi-automatic handguns, rifles, and shotguns, many parts for them, as well as .50 caliber rifles and ammunition.

House Bill 1599, also introduced by Representative Acevedo, would classify countless semi-automatic handguns, rifles, and shotguns as "semi-automatic assault weapons," and would classify as "high capacity ammunition" any "ammunition of .50 or more caliber." This bill would also create enhanced felony penalties under the Unlawful Use of Weapons (UUW) statute if a "semi-automatic assault weapon" or "high capacity ammunition" is involved. Much of the UUW statute deals with simply possessing regulated "weapons."

House Bill 1855, again introduced by Representative Acevedo, would create penalties for individuals who have had their firearms stolen if they fail to report the theft in an arbitrarily determined time-frame. Under this bill, (which should be titled the "Crime Victim Victimization Act,") if a law-abiding gun owner has a firearm stolen and fails to report its theft "within 72 hours after obtaining knowledge of the theft," the crime victim would be charged with committing a petty offense. A second "offense" could lead to the crime victim losing his or her Firearm Owner's Identification (FOID) card, thus losing his or her right to own ANY firearm. In other words, as a crime victim, you would be treated the same as the criminal who stole your property if you fail to jump through this bureaucratic hoop in the arbitrary time that the government deems to be a timely fashion.

Please contact your state Representative TODAY and urge him or her to protect your Second Amendment rights and oppose HB 1294, HB 1599, and HB 1855!

Wow, I thought we had it bad here in Cal. We have outrageously stupid firearms laws here but those are crazier. Do these bills have a clause that grandfathers in previously owned guns or magazines?

Yep, Acevedo has proposed near identical House Bills for the last half dozen sessions. As have a few other Chicago Reps and Senators for the last few decades. Luckily they have never gained any traction.

An excerpt from wiki on Acevedo...
"In 2008 Acevedo received about $25,000 from an electrical contractor that has won millions of dollars in government work - a deal Acevedo has never reported on his ethics statements. Acevedo was accused by Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich of holding a city job while also collecting a state paycheck as a lawmaker, along with nine other Chicago Democrats."

My represetative here in Southern Illinois will vote against it. Got to worry about Chicago thouth. This is the same thing they have been trying to pass for years. Not much chance of it passing. Public sentiment is going the other way. Keep hearing concealed carry will pass here. We are the only hold out.

I hate to say it, but this is how we do goverment in Illinois. Sad, but true. It won't pass the house, let alone become law. Still, we are the only state with no carry law. Folks talk about California, but Illinois is worse in many ways. 95 % of the state (by land mass) would vote to separate from Chicago if possible.

No true. Sure Obama only won Cook County and St Clair to carry Illinois, ut his losses were relatively narrow for the rest of the state.

Keep in mind Southern Illinois is still living in the FDR New Deal. It's a very bizarre area. "Never worked. Never will." is largely the motto down there.

LaSalle county is one of the most rural and hick counties in the north, has the motto "This is LaSalle County. You can do whatever you want down here". Even still, it is 50/50 conservative/liberal and surprisingly a non binding vote asking Springfield for CCW failed here.

The point is, much of Illinois will vote however Madigan tells them.

Yes Chicago really does need the National Guard's help. It's lawless community controlled by the organized crime syndicate known as the Democrat Party. It's pretty much a cesspool.
