I am wondering what everybodys opinion is on Long term storage and what is the best way to do so. All experiences and opinions are welcome - thanks.

I'm no expert, but a Cool & Dry place seems best. If you just need to bury it for a while use a GI waterproof bag, will only hold a couple of cans though.

I have some old (from '41, '44, '64 and '66) ammunition for the original Krag Jorgensen rifle in 8mmx58R - it has been stored cool and dry and there is absolutely no problem with it.

It's even been in the freezer for 2? month ( long story..!!)

It shoots just as good as when it rolled off the productionline.

I use used military ammo cans with dissectant inside. No problems whatsoever, and I'm firing 10-year old stuff all the time.

I buy the stuff sealed in vinyl battle packs and just stack it up in the spare bedroom. Should keep fine for at least 75 years.

Long term storage, Hahahha, your kidding.

Saturday, just bought 8,500 rounds of 5.56 and it will be all shot up in 1 day, June 24th.

20mm ammo cans in good condition stored in the garage, got some 8mm,7.62x39, various pistol cartridges, smoke gernades and pop up flares that has been out there for 20 years.
    With no noticeable problems.

Enemy of working ammo is HEAT and WET- keep it unhot- 60-70F- and unwet- 15% relative humidity or less- and you would be surprised how long it lasts. Do not let ammo remain in contact with leather or a different metal- like brass on steel- either will set up for corrosion of the cartridge case. I am still shooting WW II 8mm Mauser (hey- I got a good deal on a bunch of it- OK?) Sealed ammo cans with a dessicant pack inside, stored in your basement is about as good as you will get. Keep it away from the furnace.
