Found this Mossberg 151M-a locally, nice rifle, it has the factory peep sights and it's in really decent condition.
Would any of you guys happen to know when the "a" version of the 151M was produced? Do any of you own one, if so how do you like it and what is a fair price for it ?

I have 2 a 151M a which was my very first rifle from 1954 and a 151M b that has a old Weaver 3-9 scope, both have the rear peep sight and hooded front. I bought the b for $55.00 about 10 years ago. They both are great shooters, but get strange looks sometimes at the range.

    Nice!

It kind of looks like a pump up air rifle. [:D]

Now that you mention it, it does look a lot like a air gun. [:D]

OK, just found out that these were made in 1947 and 1948.

I have had mine for years. Love it!

Did you know that the peep sight swings away so you can use the iron sites? Also, the front site should have four different posts that swing away so you can choose the one that works best for you!

Confession- Mossberg-a-holic. Damned things are addictive. Got a few dozen, including a couple of 151M's. And a 144LSB that will shoot the pants off some $2,000 European 22's. BTW, Victor Havlin at Havlin Sales is THE go-to man for anything for those rifles. Rear peep sights for the 151Ms are retailing for $60-$80 when you can find them.

    Details for the 151M:

22 lr, 15 shot tubular magazine. Barrel 20". Weight 7 lbs. Two piece Mannlicher stock with pistol grip, cheekpiece, swivels. Complete action is instantly removable without the use of tools. No. 1A ramp front sight, No. S107 rear sight, No. S100 receiver sight. Made 1946-1947.
    Model 151M(a), S130 sight replaces S100, made 1947-1948.
Model 151M(b), plastic buttplate replaces steel, made 1948-1954.
    Model 151M(c), replaces S107 sight with S137, made 1954-1958.
