for the money? I'm looking for something where the crosshair actually adjusts for different ranges?

...It's not my cup o' tea, but a buddy swears by his Shepherd. I don't doubt it's precision, but it seems like too much thinking would be in order at a very hurried-critical moment. I'll stick with the "by guess and by golly" holdover method.

Nightforce R2 reticle or one of the new MOA reticles by US Optics. The calculations are easy in MOA instead of mils or inches. The only thing is that when you are ranging an object, you are always GUESSING at it's height unless it is something tangible like a building or vehicle which will know ahead of time, but an animal is different, he may be 6 inches taller or shorter than your guess,..which WILL affect a range calculation.

What JustC said, Shepards are good scopes, but the reticle is "too busy" for my taste.

    the best is still...

Get to know ANY scope..... and

    shooting experience.

But I'd say... Schmidt&Bender with Bryant sight.
It'd cover whatever you're trying to hunt at reasonable huntingdistances.

    At normal hunts that is..

Thanks for the replies. I'm looking for something that is very precise from a bench rest to target at 500 yards. I'm looking to take as much guesswork out from that distance as possible.
