Range and gun school in Colorado

Yes, If you all can remember, I talked about this possibility back earlier in the winter. Well, we informed the owner yesterday of our intention to purchase ALL 47,000 acres of his ranch. It is located 45 miles to the east of Colo. Springs in the town of Rush (good name). Just off state hwy 94. We will use about 4,000 acres for the range and school. The rest will ultimately be developed by our developement people. I will be moving down there permanently in a couple of weeks to start the ID program in motion. We will have a website going shortly and I will post the address here. The ID's will start in early June and any and all of you who have contacted me, in the past, will be made aware of the dates of our class schedule. We anticipate holding them, initially in Colo. Springs until a small range and classroom can be set up on the ranch. Any other of you folks (male and female) who may be interested in this opportunity (full or part time) can PM me with your contact info. Bobski need not apply...
We anticipate a Sept 06 partial opening with classes well into Nov. We will continue the construction throughout the winter and hold a big grand opening in May of 07. Stay tuned.... the ride begins...!!

We will be a defensive weapons shooting school. When we open, we will offer 2 and 4 day handgun, rifle and shotgun classes. Plans are afoot for trap and skeet venues, paintball, both indoor and outdoor, a HUGE LEO dedicated training compound, a precision rifle course, Hogan's allies, both civilian and LE and a huge proshop for both. It will be a public range and we will have a membership program for both the school and the range. Their will be a hunting class and tags for those that wish to hunt on the ranch. We are also discussing a "dude ranch" class and program for families that are interested. Plus awhole lot more programs...all in the planning stages. It will be a "destination style resort". Their is an operational airstrip there now and the financial folks are making plans now, for a 300 plus room lodge...I believe, when completed, we will have the finest shooting sports venue in the country. We have the land and the financial resources to accomplish this, as well. Our website will be up shortly and I will post the address.

its all easier said than done, and ever been to the NRA Whittington Center just a couple of hours south? It is quite a facility. Just under 6 miles of firing line.

Almanac.....I appreciate your "vote of confidence", but sorry to disappoint...we are not going to trying to compete with Whittinton..!! Our LE revenue alone will support much of our operation. The last time I checked...you can't go to Whitington and try out your paintball techniques...!!! Our direct competitors are Front Sight, Gunsite and TR in Oregon....

so that your little dig isnt one sided, for the sake of those reading i'll remind them that you expected prospects to travel to colo with a 'chance' of being hired without offering incentives like telling us a ballpark of what your were willing to pay us. when questioned, you stated that being an instructor 'doesnt pay much.' oh jolly, i come to colo to apply for a chance to get a job doesnt pay much. wow.

    serious.
your staff should be the first and foremost investment. to think otherwise, youre doomed before you start. good luck in your quest. if you dont give your instructors a reason to make YOU good money, they wont give their best. we'll see what you are in 5 years. best wishes.

You may want to touch base with the Ben Lomond Gun Club there in Co Springs- former member, they are good folks- have a modest range East of Kiowa CO.

I'll be moving back to CO in a year or so (hopefully) I will DEFINITELY check it out.

Also may want to check in with the Dragon Man in Springs. He's an interesting character who may be able to give you some pointers.

Just wondering, have you checked into seeing if there will be any difficulty getting the land re-zoned? The Boulder Rifle Club just bought some adjacent land to their existing range, and are having a devil of a time with the city commissioners, trying to get "permission" to develop a few more acres into ranges.

What kind of "development" are you talking about on the other 43,000 acres? Going to build a city or something?

Good luck on you venture, I'll have to drop down for a visit, once you get the place up and running.

    11b6r,
Yes, I have had discussions with Ben Lomomd (John Bond). I may go to one of their meetings and let them know about us and our plans. Maybe a few folks would enjoy one of our handgun classes..

    nemesis,
Do stay in touch when you come here. We will talk. I know the "Dragon Man" from doing gunshows in Colo. Nice guy...alittle bit too rambo like for my tastes...If you get my drift...!! His place is about 20 miles east of us.

    pickenup,
No problems with Lincoln County. They are falling all over themselves with the fact that we are coming out there. We will be at the county offices on Tuesday to get all the permits and liscenses for filing. We have told the present owner that we are agreeable to keeping sufficient cattle on the ranch to preerve his "AG rating". I would assume to acreage we need for the range will be easily converted to CUP rating. We have every Sheriff along the Front Range ready to send his SWAT and Sp. Ops officers to the facility to train, sooo if any "hoops" are put up, I believe we have sufficient local influence to get things done. This includes; Douglas, Arapahoe, Jefferson, Park, Summit, El Paso, Peublo and awhole bunch more. The is alot of "horsepower behind this project. Do visit us and introduce yourself when and if you stop by. Bring some friends, as well. Regards...Dave..
P.S. Yes, First we will improve the airstrip and build a huge 5-star type guest lodge, followed by some retail malls and eventually residential and light business parks. You can do alot for alongtime with 40,000+ acres.

    Chris,
Thank you for your comments....I'll file you in with Bobski. There is an old saying that my father would always say to my if I objected to having to do a task for him. It applies here in your case, as well; "If rape is inevitable, one needs to sit back and enjoy it"....Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm..!!

I am distraught that you have filed me with Bobski....whatever that means...but you mistook my comment as an insult or personal attack against you...it was just an observation that too much open land is being developed and the bottom line is greed and wealth for the developers.

I'm about five hundred miles south of where you'll be setting up shop. I'll be retired by the time you open up.If the gas prices don't get wayout of hand I just might go take a look at what you've built. Good luck to you.
