A Little Nervous

About to go in and tell the mgr I'll take the offer for the foreman position. It's a pissant bottom of the flow chart position. I've been doing it for the last year and getting overtime to boot, but just the idea of the commitment is a little nervous. I'll still pay the union dues for the next year, just to leave that door open.

It's not the money. It's not the notion of "power" over others. That is an illusion and only a fool thinks he truly has it. I guess I actually enjoy the pressure, which sounds stupid, after thing ended so badly at the last job with The Evil Empire and me walking away burned out and mentally fried.

In any case, when there is a good a day the adenaline is fun and satisfying. The people I work with are great on this shift. A person doesn't have to direct them, but rather be there to assist with the basics when they are having problems and give them a little help so they can get on top of the difficulty, basically it's being there in the thick of the crisis with them.

It's taken a while to get to this job, which again ain't much of a job. Some people are fortunate enough to start out at this level, but I began at a job that several would have not taken as the troll in the basement. It has had it's advantages. One gets an opportunity to actually work in several department around the place and know more than the "mgmt trainee" that gets a little overview and thinks he knows it all. I've learned there is no "fast track". You have to get dirty with it to truly know a job.

Yes hard work key. Not walking away at the first moment of disagreement is also important. Having patience with lazy supervisors is also a good attribute. Those who treated the place as their personal playground and acted like the play ground bullies are now working elsewhere. They eventually get what they deserve and opportunities will and have open up.

Thanks for the mindless ramble.
