Stores are loaded with 22 ammo, now. Still no explanation for the 6 year shortage.

Obama in 3rd year when shortage started.
Correct. He had to screwup health care before he went after Ammo
Obama in 3rd year when shortage started.
Two years ago I investigated ammunition shortages in the U.S. At the time many stores and gun ranges were rationing everything from .22 LR to 9mm to .223 Rem. ammunition. The shortage became so severe that rumors spread over Internet that the federal government was buying up ammo to purposely cause the shortages. There was so much paranoia that many ammo makers felt compelled to look into it and then publish explanations. Also, the National Rifle Association (NRA) investigated and the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF), the trade association for gun, ammo, and related businesses, looked into the reasons for the shortages. They all came to the conclusion that consumer demand??fueled by record high gun sales??was behind the shortages.
Do you really believe that Obama and Congress didn't cause the record high gun sales, along with her subsequent record-high animal sales with their anti gun agenda?
Here is my take on the shortage that occurred.
1. Sandy Hook happened and there was a POTUS in office and a Dem Congress that were not 2A friendly. People panicked...and not just long time gun owners. New people suddenly felt if they needed/wanted a firearm, then now was the time.
2. In regards to #1, many newbies to shooting asked us old geezers what is a good gun to learn on. The simple 22LR was normally the answer given. How do I come to that conclusion? Ruger 10/22s and Marlin Model 60s usually sat on the shelf and did not move much; suddenly they were wiped out and backordered as much as the ARs were.
3. Rimfire ammo manufacturers did not foresee the increased demand from both newbies and old guys like us deciding to stock up for the future as it was not clear what would happen. They produce "X" amount based upon historical sales.
4. Manufacturers could possibly have increased production of rimfire. However market indicators showed a run on 556/223. More profit there.
5. Distributors started shipping to markets that previously did not have a demand.
6. Unscrupulous shipping/receiving clerks at stores were most likely setting it aside for their friends or people who were paying them to not put it out in stock so they could buy it for resale.
It took a bit of time to realize that the Dems were afraid to move on gun control at that time and then the balance shifted to the right and people became much calmer and stock slowly returned to normal.
Just my .02 based upon what I was seeing in San Antonio.
