How many of you have state background checks and what do they run you? Not talking about FFL transfers just pre purchase checks. Oregon is $10 for the first one and $5 for each one after that at the same time.

Are you talking about at the courthouse or for purchasing a firearm?
$5 dollars for criminal record at courthouse, $5 dollar for Permit to purchase a handgun, 0 for Nics check , and if you have a CCW permit, no need for permit to purchase handgun, its covered by the CCW. This is in NC

$25 here in Nevada. I don't buy from FFL's because of it. And yes I tell them all that.

Iowa=free.

Edit- Iowa has no state check, no pre check, and you can buy as many guns at one time every day of the year if you so desire.

I've had State, Federal, DOJ, DOD, BATFE, etc, you name it.
First one (State) cost me 20$ for CCW and Second one (State) Pharmacy Tech. was $10, but got reimbursed. Others cost me nothing, they were either no charge or paid for by employers

Same check is used in WA for Volunteer Workers at Schools as for CCW - it was $60 last time I got one...

No I am not confused. All local FFL's charge a fee anywhere from $5 to $75 on top of the background check. Just another way to make some cash. I guess it's kinda like some FFL's not accepting a transfer from a private individual.[:)]

Kentucky...Never paid one yet when I bought a firearm. I have never asked what they would charge if I just wanted it ran for one reason or another.
I know my local dealer charges $25 if I have a gun shipped to him to transfer to me.

No back ground check charge here in ND. I was having a discussion with my brother about this today. To me, this sounds like a cost of operation thing and should be figured into a shop's overhead instead of passed on to the customer. If your profit margin is that narrow that you have to charge for a back ground check, you're not doing business right or you're trying to suck as much from your customers as you can. That's just my take on it. The gun shop I deal with here in Minot makes such a small profit on firearm sales, their money maker is ammo and accessories. You buy a gun once but you're going to keep coming back to feed it and dress it up nicely.
